Make Ups: Stuart Gold earned Make-Ups by attending the Vocational Assembly, District Staff Meeting, RLI Planning Meeting, and the Wyckoff Club Meeting; Peter Wells attended the Vocational Assembly; Ray Falcon attended the District Staff Meeting and Club Meetings in Hawthorne and Teaneck. Birthdays and Anniversaries: Nancy Swales celebrated her birthday earlier this week.
Sunshine:Members were saddened to hear of the passing of Kathy Wertalik’s mother.The wake will be Monday Oct 8 from 4-7 pm (one session only) at Pizzi's Funeral Home on Paris Ave in Northvale, NJ. Services will be Tuesday morning at the Immaculate Conception Church on Summit Ave in Norwood at 9:30 am.

Cindy Rose's return brought in large numbers of Happy Dollars including a significant number from Cindy herself.
Lisa Peck and Irma Chazotte were happy to report that club members had sold nearly 150 Lord and Taylor Savings passes. Lisa was also happy about daughter Danielle's upcoming confirmation.
Stuart Gold was happy that plans for Saturday's RLI are in place and that there are expected to be at least 50 Rotarians in attendance.
Senior Mentor Advisor and our past AG Marian Goetz was happy to be visiting with us once again today.
Bernie Cohen was happy that the Mets baseball season had finally come to an end. He was also happy to be headed upstate for the weekend.
Steve Hopper was happy to be attending his son's soccer game and Cub Scout Bonfire later today.
Bob Bustard was happy for the Eagles victory over the Giants last weekend.
Mauro Cappitella was happy to have been given a clean bill of health.
President Joeen Ciannella was happy for the beautiful day and for all the good things happening in the club this Rotary year.

News was received that last week's speaker, John Fugazzie, founder and president of Neighbors helping Neighbors, was among the 40 people laid off from A&P corporate offices this past Wednesday. We wish him well in his new job search.
Sargeant-at-Arms Peter Wells continued to distribute the magnetic Rotary pins he had purchased to members of the club who had not been present last week. Along with the pin was a flyer entitled "Do You Wear Your Rotary Pin Every Day?". WEAR YOUR PIN WITH PRIDE! HAVE YOUR "ELEVATOR SPEECH" READY! YOU MAY BE PLEASANTLY SURPRISED AT ITS EFFECTIVENESS AS A RECRUITMENT TOOL. Thank you, Peter, for your gift.
Sixteen cases of Dictionaries were delivered to Jan's warehouse last week. We will need several members to volunteer in the distribution of the Dictionaries to third graders at Memorial School, Montvale, Dorchester School, Woodcliff Lake, and the West Ridge, Eastbrook and Our Lady of Mercy Schools in Park Ridge. We hope to complete distribution by Thanksgiving. Rotary book plates are ready and waiting.
Fay Logan announced that plans are in place for our 2nd annual St.Paddy's Day celebration to be held on Friday, March 15 at the Park Ridge Elks Club. Nightingale Catering will be providing the food once again. Fay is also looking into reserving a date for President-elect Michelle Albergo's installation aboard the sloop Clearwater on a sail along the Hudson.
Bob Bustard is in the process of arranging for an afternoon or evening of trap and skeet shooting at Thunder Mountain in Ringwood State Park sometime in the next few weeks.
Bernie Cohen has prepared a flyer for this year's Fruit Sale. It has been sent as an e-mail attachment to all club members and District Presidents as well as to friends of the club. Additional flyers may be downloaded from the Download section on the left sidebar of our website. Members are encouraged to forward flyers to friends, relatives and business contacts. Orders will be accepted until November 24. Delivery is scheduled for Saturday, December 1 between 10:00 and noon at the Merrill Lynch parking lot, 50 Chestnut Ridge Road, Montvale. Program: What's Rotary - How do YOU answer the question?
President Joeen took advantage of not having an outside speaker today to put into play an idea suggested to her by Bob Bustard some weeks ago. Peter Wells has provided all of us with Rotary pins so that we would be encouraged to wear it wherever we go. Inevitably individuals noticing the pin will ask what it represents. In anticipation of such questions, we should all be ready with an "Elevator Speech" that can explain the essence of Rotary in less than a minute. Today Stuart Gold and Bob Balentine shared theirs.
Stuart emphasized the scope of RI, its long history and its countless achievements over the years. Bob's focus was on Rotary's innumerable ways of lifting people up, locally and internationally through its many services and programs.
One PDG, whose comment was posted on the RI website some time ago offered two - one, a 30 second speech and another designed to summarize the gist of Rotary in 10 seconds. Here's what he suggested:
30 Second Reply: "Rotary is the world's oldest and most important service organization with over 1,200,000 members in more than 30,000 clubs spread throughout 160 countries. Rotary provides clean water to those without it, feeds the hungry, battles crippling, debilitating and disfiguring diseases and helps people learn to read and write so they can compete in the modern workplace. Rotarians are business and professional leaders who aspire to the highest ethical standards in their vocations and who not only help those in need in their own communities but who also seek to advance the cause of peace, understanding and goodwill worldwide through scholarships, youth and adult exchanges and humanitarian projects." 10 Second Reply: "Rotary is the world's oldest and most important service organization. It provides clean water to those without it, feeds the hungry, battles crippling, debilitating and disfiguring diseases and helps people learn to read and write so they can compete in the modern workplace."

In addition on Wednesday Steve Hopper’s 96 year old grandmother Gina Pratt who lived in New Mexico passed away.
Stuart Gold reported that Ralph Padovano had been out of work due to illness on many occasions over the past several weeks. We are hopeful that Ralph will be back with us soon.
