Birthdays and Anniversaries: Nancy Swales celebrated her birthday last week.
Sunshine:
We are saddened to report the passing of John Zaczek, the father of Nancy Collentine, on Wednesday, September 18.
Mauro Cappitella is currently undergoing chemo treatment. We wish him well and hope to have him back with us soon.
Helen Paul is currently at home recovering from back surgery. Hopefully, she too will be up and about soon.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who are currently contending with adversity of one type or another.

Many Happy Dollars were collected as a result of the highly successful 5K event held on Sunday, 9/22. Over 100 people took part in what we hope will become our annual signature event for the fall. Community Life helped our cause with front page coverage and 2 full pages of photos in their 9/26 edition.
Stuart Gold was happy for the upcoming Rotary Leadership Institute being held at The Courtyard next Saturday, Oct. 12, but sad that Parts 2 and 3 had to be cancelled due to an insufficient number of registrations.
Bob Balentine was happy finally to be home and to get to a club meeting.
Phil Wells was happy to have Bob back with us and to have had a great vacation in Florida.
Cindy Rose was happy that she and Irma had been able to raise nearly $750 for the club by selling almost 150 Lord & Taylor Savings Passes at $5.00 each. Thanks to everyone for their support
Nancy Swales was happy to have been able to celebrate her birthday with her son and daughter last week.
Ryan Cangialosi was happy to report that the club had cleared in excess of $4000.00 at last month’s 5K event. Thanks to all who helped make the day such a success.
Jan Doornbosch was happy for the success of the 5K and for all of the work done by the committee in carrying it out.
Future member Mike Zalienski was happy to be adjusting to his new home in Park Ridge and to have found our club.
Ray Falcon was happy to have had a wonderful vacation and to be back with the club.
Pat DiRosa was happy to have Bob Balentine back with us and to be headed “down the shore” for the first time in a couple of weeks.
President Bob was happy for our upcoming evening of trap and skeet shooting at Thunder Mountain in Ringwood on Thursday, October 10.

THERE WILL BE NO MEETING AT THE COURTYARD NEXT FRIDAY, OCTOBER 11.
The next club event will be held Thursday night, October 10, when members are invited to join President Bob at Thunder Mountain in Ringwood (http://thundermt.com). Bob will be sending an e-mail with all the particulars this weekend. Know, however, that dinner is NOT included. The cost to shoot is $20 + tip for 25 shots. There are several different ranges from which to choose.
In his AG Report, Stuart Gold urged all members to take advantage of the upcoming Rotary Leadership Institute being held on Saturday, October 12 at our home, THE COURTYARD BY MARRIOTT in Montvale. RLI is growing so fast because it is the most powerful organized learning experience in all of Rotary. RI is urging all new members to complete Part I. Don’t deny yourself & your club this opportunity to become stronger Rotarians & better leaders. Registration begins at 7:30 A.M. $105.00 per person. District 7490 will pay for one if two from same club take Part I.

Last week, guest speaker, PDG Joe Laureni alerted members to the upcoming Rotary UN Day to be held on Saturday, November 2. The program is designed to inspire and educate all participants as well as provide insight into the relationship between Rotary and the United Nations. The day will begin at 9:30am and conclude by 4:00pm. Lunch will be in the UN Cafeteria, over-looking the East River at 1:00pm. Rotary Day at the United Nations also includes a special program for youth interested in humanitarian service. Youth will have the opportunity to hear about a model UN program, the Shelter Box project, some projects that Interact Clubs are working on, and an overview of the UN and much more. The program begins at 9:30am and concludes at 12:30 followed by lunch. Participants are welcome to join the adult program after lunch. To learn more go to http://riunday.org

Members welcomed Bergen County Clerk, John Hogan who described for the club the workings of his office.
The County Clerk is one of three constitutional officers elected by the voters of Bergen County.
The County Clerk's responsibilities include the recording, filing and maintenance of many public records including those effecting property and business ownership.
In addition, the County Clerk's office keeps Naturalization Records, processes Passport applications, Notary Public Oaths, Veteran’s ID Cards and is responsible for one third of the Election process along with the Superintendent of Elections and the Board of Elections.
The County Clerk is historically known as the "keeper of records" and is one of the oldest offices in the State of NJ. Many records in the Bergen County Clerk's office are over 300 years old.
