Sunshine: Bob Balentine reported on a special fund-raiser being held for Park Ridge resident Richard Burton on Sunday, Nov. 2 at the Elks Lodge in Park Ridge.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who are currently contending with adversity of one type or another.

Many Happy Dollars were raised in appreciation for the successful RLI conference held at The Courtyard on Saturday, 10/11.
Joeen C. was happy to be here with Tara today.
The presence of Tara and child-to-be brought in many more Happy Dollars.
Pat D. was happy to be with us today after a nasty fall last weekend. Her presence with us brought in a good number of Happy Dollars as well.
June B. was happy to be celebrating the first official day of her retirement.
Mary Ellen O. was happy for June's retirement.
Cindy R. was happy for the conclusion of the Lord and Taylor event.
Phil W. was happy to talk about the upcoming “fun-raiser” for DGE Peter.
Jan D. was happy to be back from celebrating his grandson’s 6th birthday in Holland. Also, he was happy to report that our sister club in Holland was donating $610.00 to our club as a result of their own successful 5K.
New City Rotarian Mark was happy to be visiting with us today.
Dan A was happy for his son who completed the Chicago Marathon in less than 3 hours.
Steve F. was happy for his daughter’s successful interview at Towson.
Stuart was happy for the success of last week’s RLI and for the 6 club members who attended.

Tara Scheuerman and Phil Wells reviewed details and passed out flyers for the upcoming “Fun Raiser” for DGE Peter Wells. The event will feature chef Tara, free wine and beer, and a pot luck dinner with prizes. Download the flyer from our website for additional details and SAVE THE DATE – Thursday, November 6 from 6:00-10:00 for a fun evening as we start building momentum for Peter’s 2015-16 year as Governor of District 7490.
Time to order FRESH ORANGES AND GRAPEFRUIT! Our 27th annual FRUIT SALE is underway. Order forms can be downloaded from our website. Half-cases - $28.00; full cases - $46.00. Orders must be in to Bernie Cohen by Friday, November 28. Fruit will be available for pick-up on Saturday, December 6 between 10:00 and noon in the parking lot of 50 Chestnut Ridge Rd., Montvale.

On Friday, October 17, club members welcomed to The Courtyard guest speaker Michael Lubetkin, President and CEO of Spectrum for Living.

Since being founded by parents of 5 disabled children in 1978, Spectrum has been helping adults with developmental disabilities attain their maximum potential by providing quality housing and clinical services in state-of-the-art facilities.
In 1983, the first Spectrum site opened its doors in Closter, NJ housing 48 persons in an Intermediate Care Facility. Today, Spectrum for Living serves nearly 800 people at 29 sites in three New Jersey counties. In addition to the Intermediate Care Facility, group homes, supervised apartments, and a network of adult training centers offer educational and recreational opportunities in safe, secure and fully accessible environments.
Services provided to clients of Spectrum are supported by a staff of 650 individuals and an operating budget of about $34 million. The cost to support one individual in a Spectrum residence averages between $70,000 and $100,000 per year.
The mission of Spectrum for Living is highly ambitious: to enable individuals who have developmental and physical disabilities to have the opportunity to attain their highest level of skills, purpose, and independence with dignity through Spectrum’s ongoing commitment to comprehensive quality services, advocacy, and family partnership. Nonetheless, the 501c3 non-profit has been highly successful over the years and today has a waiting list of 8000.
In order to grow and continue to provide the unique services Spectrum offers, Spectrum continually relies on funding from individuals, community organizations, corporations and foundations as well as government funding.
