Sunshine: In an e-mail received from Larry Hoyns, your editor learned that Larry's mother, Muriel Speer Perrsion, 92, passed away May 7, 2012 in Sugar Land TX. In addition, his father, George W. Hoyns Jr., 96, passed away September 29, 2012 in Sugarland TX

Your editor was very happy to announce the October 8 birth of his second grand-daughter, Emily Lauren.
Cindy Rose was happy to be at tonight's meeting and to have arrived before the bell.
AG Mukesh Malkan was happy to visit the club at Bibi'z.
Vlad Zherenovsky was happy to be at the meeting with Ariana and his son Alan.
Jan Doornbosch was happy to have celebrated his grandson's fourth birthday in Holland.
Bob Balentine was happy to have PDG Joe Laureni present tonight and for all the work that Joe has done for the District over the years.
Dick Beattie was happy to be going to Philadelphia this weekend.

Dick Beattie announced that the Pascack Mental Health Center, which is celebrating 40 years of service to the area this year, is about to begin its annual phone-a-thon fund-raiser. Many of the callers will be members of the PRHS or the PHHS Interact Clubs.
News was received that our recent speaker, John Fugazzie, founder and president of Neighbors helping Neighbors, was among the 40 people laid off from A&P corporate offices this past Wednesday. We wish him well in his new job search.
Sixteen cases of Dictionaries were delivered to Jan's warehouse a few days ago. We will need several members to volunteer in the distribution of the Dictionaries to third graders at Memorial School, Montvale, Dorchester School, Woodcliff Lake, and the West Ridge, Eastbrook and Our Lady of Mercy Schools in Park Ridge. We hope to complete distribution by Thanksgiving. Rotary book plates are ready and waiting.
Fay Logan announced that plans are in place for our 2nd annual St.Paddy's Day celebration to be held on Friday, March 15 at the Park Ridge Elks Club. Nightingale Catering will be providing the food once again.
Bob Bustard is in the process of arranging for an afternoon or evening of trap and skeet shooting at Thunder Mountain in Ringwood State Park sometime in the next few weeks.
Bernie Cohen has prepared a flyer for this year's Fruit Sale. It has been sent as an e-mail attachment to all club members and District Presidents as well as to friends of the club. Additional flyers may be downloaded from the Download section on the left sidebar of our website. Members are encouraged to forward flyers to friends, relatives and business contacts. Orders will be accepted until November 24. Delivery is scheduled for Saturday, December 1 between 10:00 and noon at the Merrill Lynch parking lot, 50 Chestnut Ridge Road, Montvale. I. AG Mukesh Malkan reported on recent and upcoming events in the District. Club members were reminded that October is Vocational Service Month. At the NJ Rotary Vocational Assembly held on October 1, Roy Blumenthal of the Pascack Valley Club was presented with this year's Vocational Service Award. Our own Ann Kilmartin was one of the nine nominees.
Mukesh then congratulated Stuart Gold on having organized and successfully conducted last Saturday's Rotary Leadership Institute at Bergen Community College. Over 50 Rotarians attended.
Dates to put on your calendar include the Gift of Life Dinner scheduled for February 15, the President-elect Training Seminar to be held on the weekend of March 22,23, and the Presidents' Ball to be held on April 25.
II. The club's featured speaker for the evening was Past District Governor Joe Laureni, Rotary International's Representative to the United Nations. Since 1945, RI and the UN have had a history of working together, sharing similar visions in their efforts to make the world a better place. In his talk, Joe reviewed the history of that relationship and described the responsibilities of his position.
In 1942, Rotary clubs from 21 nations organized a conference in London to develop a vision for advancing education, science, and culture after World War II. That event was a precursor to UNESCO. In 1945, 49 Rotarians went to San Francisco to help draft the UN Charter. Rotary and the UN have been close partners ever since, a relationship that’s apparent through PolioPlus and work with UN agencies.
As RI's Representative to the United Nations this year, Joe works with a team of 4 other Rotarians. In their position, these representatives increase awareness and recognition of Rotary's programs, policies, and activities within the global community. They meet regularly with officers and staff to discuss parallel concerns and potential areas for cooperation and gather information about the programs and developments within other NGOs.
Joe reported that he is very excited about this year's Rotary Day at the UN being held on November 3. Each year at Rotary UN Day, more than 1300 Rotarians including many Rotary International Directors, Foundation Trustees, past Senior Leaders, and guests come together at UN Headquarters in New York. Rotary Day at the United Nations also includes a special program for youth interested in humanitarian service. Youth have the opportunity to hear about a model UN program, the Shelter Box project, some projects that Interact Clubs are working on, an overview of the UN and much more.
This 2012 event has now sold out and promises to be a very inspirational and motivational experience. If you weren't able to go this year, try to go in 2013. It's a day that will vividly reinforce the importance of Rotary's work throughout the world.

Stuart Gold reported that Ralph Padovano had been out of work due to illness on many occasions over the past several weeks. We are hopeful that Ralph will be back with us soon.
Additionally, Ann Kilmartin continues on her road to recovery after a recent hospitalization.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who are currently contending with adversity of one type or another.
