Nov. 2 TRI-GEAR REPORT
To members and friends of the Park Ridge Rotary Club, we hope that this Tri-Gear Report finds you in recovery mode after the devastation of Superstorm SANDY.
Our scheduled meeting with District Governor Bonnie Sirower had to be cancelled yesterday due to power problems and other storm related circumstances at The Courtyard. We have rescheduled the Governor's visit for Friday, November 30.
During the past couple of days, John Fugazzie of Neighbors helping Neighbors, has provided me with some useful information related to the storm and its repercussions. I have posted a number of those items on the club's Facebook page and offer them here as well.
US Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius today declared a public health emergency in New Jersey. The declaration gives health care facilities flexibility to respond to the health and medical needs of patients by temporarily relaxing Medicare/Medicaid regulations covering operations including admissions, discharges and transfers: clinical assessments of patients and the timelines of documentation requirements. This declaration enables the state of New Jersey and the Department of Health to work with health care facilities so they can rapidly respond to the medical and health needs of individuals affected by Hurricane Sandy.

4. SUPERSTORM SANDY has undoubtedly redirected the attention of many away from next week's election. The election will nevertheless be held as scheduled on TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 6. As a result of the storm, several communities have been forced to relocate some of their voting sites. Contact numbers at the Bergen County Division of Elections should be able to provide you with answers to whatever questions you may have.
