On Friday, Nov.6, club members learned of the work of New Hope, Inc. from Marilyn Laquidara, a long-time volunteer with the group.

Founded in 1985, New Hope was created to serve as an outreach program to single, first-time mothers and their babies, both born and unborn. During the past 30 years, over 300 mothers in the Bergen County area have been helped. The all-volunteer staff commits to the new mothers for up to 3 years helping them tend to their everyday and emergency needs via a one-on-one Mentor Support System.

Money raised by the organization provides subsidies for education, housing and all aspects of infant and child care. Knowing that the support of New Hope is behind them, these new mothers receive the gifts of security and self-esteem and are enabled to press on when the odds may seem insurmountable. New Hope volunteers receive great satisfaction knowing that through their efforts, young first time single mothers and their babies will have much needed assistance as they face the difficult circumstances of raising a baby alone.
