Jawonio
On Friday, October 21, club members learned a new word: Jawonio, a Native American word meaning independence. From guest speaker Jill Warner, it quickly became apparent how appropriate the name is for the agency of which she is Executive Director. For over 60 years Jawonio, The Center for People with Disabilities and Special Needs, has served residents of Rockland, Westchester, Bergen and Passaic Counties, providing opportunities for individuals with disabilities to live as valuable members of the community. Through the organization, medical, clinical, rehabilitative, educational, and employment services can be obtained for children and adults with physical, developmental and/or emotional disabilities. Collectively, these and other related services help Jawonio fulfill its mission of advancing the independence, well-being and equality of people with disabilities and special needs.
