Make Ups: Earning make-ups at the Lehmann Gardens Holiday Party were Peter Wells, Bob Bustard, Steve Hopper, George Sherman, Pat DiRosa and Stuart Gold. Bob Balentine earned a make-up by attending a District Staff Meeting and Irma Chazotte earned a make-up helping out with the Sandy Disaster Relief. (Please be sure to report your make-ups for our records and to improve our percentage of attendance!)

Birthdays and Anniversaries: Pat Little celebrated his birthday earlier this week.
Sunshine - Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who are currently contending with adversity of one type or another:
Members were saddened to hear of the passing of Bob Lincoln's father on Tuesday. Funeral will be held at the Mackey Funeral Home in Boonton, NJ. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Bob and his family at this most difficult time.
Our prayers are also with Nancy Swales' son who is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
Finally, Michelle Albergo asked that we keep the family of one of her staff members in our thoughts as a result of her unexpectedly losing her young daughter this past week.

Lots of happy dollars were brought in with the New Year. Peter Wells' outstanding efforts as Chairman of the District's Disaster Relief brought in many of those dollars as did the Holiday parties at the '76 House and at Lehmann Gardens.
Nancy Swales was happy to have attended the New Year's Eve wedding of her grand-daughter.
Michelle Albergo was happy for the tremendous outpouring of support on behalf of Shelter Our Sisters. She was thrilled to report that she had delivered 4 truckloads of items there for the holidays.
Bob Balentine was happy for the club's annual holiday party at the '76 House. He also was proud to give additional happy bucks in recognition of all Peter Wells had done as coordinator of the District's Disaster Relief Team.
Pat Little was happy to have been a part of the Holiday Party at Lehmann Gardens this year.
Jan Doornbosch offered happy/sad dollars for the event held at the Nyack Boat Club for all those who had lost their boats to Hurricane Sandy.
Cindy Rose was happy to be celebrating Gypsy's 5th birthday.
Pat DiRosa was happy to be taking her grandchildren to see Disney on Ice. She was also happy for her niece in Alaska who was able to raise $1000.00 for those affected by Sandy through her online project called "Cards for a Cause".
Fay Logan was happy that the party at the '76 House had been such a success with over 70 people present.
Steve Fox was happy for his recent trip to Jamaica with his family.
Irma Chazotte was happy for her upcoming vacation.

Bernie Cohen announced that the club had netted $4500.00 from the fruit sale. Special thanks were extended to Susanne Hartmann-Silva for all the work she did throughout the sales campaign and especially over Thanksgiving weekend to prepare the order. Thanks also to Jan for the use of his warehouse and to all who helped in the distribution of the fruit. All fruit has been spoken for.

As there was no outside speaker scheduled for today's meeting, Vice-President Bob Bustard pre-arranged to have brief talks given by 3 of our members.
First to speak was one of our newest members, Steve Fox. Asked to present a short autobiography, Steve talked of being Co-President of the Montvale Chamber of Commerce for several years and spoke briefly about his role as a financial advisor since 1989, currently serving as Senior Vice-President and Financial Advisor with Morgan Stanley in Pearl River. Active in the community of Montvale since moving there 13 years ago, Steve lives with his wife and two teen-age children. Among his many interests are his extensive volunteer work with the Chamber and the Montvale Recreation programs as well as skiing whenever time permits.
Next to the podium was Jan Doornbosch who gave a moving and inspirational account of his efforts on behalf of Newtown, Connecticut over the past couple of weeks. Upon hearing of the tragedy that occurred in the school there on December 14, Jan felt compelled to do SOMETHING. Recognizing the possibilities his International Bulb Company provided, he contacted a selectwoman in Newtown to discuss the feasibility of creating a memorial garden for the community. On December 19 bulbs for the garden were delivered and on December 22 Jan and over 100 volunteers descended on Newtown to plant TEN THOUSAND BULBS on a hillside overlooking a sports field used regularly by the children of the town. Since then, Jan has received countless e-mails from residents there thanking him for his thoughtfulness and generosity. Jan's initiative and determination is not only a wonderful inspiration to us, but also an action that will long be appreciated by the people of Newtown as these 10,000 flowers come into bloom each spring.
Our final speaker of the day was our own "Mr. Rotary", Stuart Gold, who shared with us one of his other passions - Action Comics, and specifically today - the history of Superman. In his talk, Stu presented us with fascinating details about the two young Cleveland high school students, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster who first came up with the idea for the character and described Superman's evolution since his first appearance in 1938. Over the next several minutes, we fondly reminisced and learned much about the adventures of one of our greatest fictional heroes. Given Stu's huge collection of adventure comics, we can look forward to more stories of characters we have long enjoyed.
1/3;1/3;1/3 - was won today by Vice-President and today's MC, Bob Bustard - a fitting reward for a job well done.
