Birthdays and Anniversaries: None

Sunshine: Cindy Rose ran into Ralph’s son who said he is doing well and still undergoing dialysis. His grandson is home visiting from the Marine Corps which has raised his spirits.

Happiness:

S. Hopper was happy for being busy at work and for the great job the PR plows did during the storm.

P. Wells was happy to be at a happy hour meeting

B.Vozza was happy to bring Kim as her guest

Many members gave happy dollars for the great result of the fruit sale and Bernie’s efforts

J Doornbosch – was happy that the extra fruit was donated to the food pantry and was happy to have Annelien at the meeting. 

C. Rose was happy for the clear roads and being able to come to the meeting 

I. Chazotte – was happy to have booked a trip to Florida in March.

Pres. Bob was happy for his trip to Wyoming.

Steve Hopper will be donating $20 worth of Girl Scout cookies to the troops as a thank you for the club buying cookies from his daughter’s troop. Please contact Steve if you would like to purchase cookies.

Announcements:

The Gift of Life Celebration Dinner, one of the highlights of the Rotary year, is only a month away.   This year the dinner will be held on Friday, February 7, 2014 at the Venetian on River Road in Garfield.   The cocktail hour (and we all know how great the cocktail hour is) starts at 6:30 and dinner begins at 7:30 pm.  The cost is $95.00 per person and includes the cocktail hour, dinner, an open bar all evening and don't forget the desserts.   In order to make things a bit easier, we encourage people to register by club and have your club treasurer send a check along with a list of names no later than January 24, 2014 to:

Walter D Head Foundations seeks applicants for scholarships.  The Rotary District 7490’s Walter D Head Foundation is providing a scholarship up to $10,000 for a person pursuing a graduate degree or to any junior or senior in college studying  journalism, assistance to people with disabilities or environmental studies. Only residents from within Rotary District 7490, encompassing Bergen, Passaic and Hudson counties in New Jersey, including Rotarians and their family members, are eligible to apply. Completed scholarship applications are due Feb. 28, 2014.  Applicants must also be available for interviews in April.   Students wishing to apply for a scholarship can call their local Rotary club president or contact Walter D Head Foundation Trustee Judy Messineo at 60 Passaic St. Garfield, NJ 07026 or e-mail  bergentravel@optonline.net.Applicants can also download an application from  www.rotarydistrict7490.org , but must first have the endorsement of their local Rotary Club before they apply.

Program:

In the absence of our scheduled speaker, all members shared a fun or memorable story about themselves.

Some highlights – Bernie played in a basketball tournament with Wilt Chamberlain, Cindy lived in Germany for the early years of her life, Bob Balentine attended 4 different High schools in 3 different states, Bob Bustard went to the 72 Olympics in Germany, Stuart was a track star in High school and quickly became a “go-to” guy for other events.
