Club members celebrated Rotary International's 107th Birthday by inviting District Governor Emil Geering and First Lady Linda Port to join us in celebrating HIS birthday on February 24. The Governor was happy to have the opportunity to present information on the upcoming District Conference to be held in Washington D.C. April 19-22.

In choosing our nation's capitol Governor Emil hoped to attract a large number of District Rotarians, their families and friends by designing a program that was both relatively close to home and relatively inexpensive.

The first of four plenary sessions will be held Thursday evening at our home base for the Conference, The Washington Court Hotel on Capitol Hill. Speakers that night will include RI's incomparable John T. Capps and Past RI Director, J.David Roper representing RI President Kalyan Banerjee.

Following breakfast on Friday, the Second Plenary Session will take place. Friday's speakers will include polio survivor Ramesh Ferris who, in April 2010, released his first book entitled, Better Than a Cure, One Man's Journey to Free the World of Polio. Proceeds from the book will be for the benefit of Rotary's Polio Plus. Later that morning, a representative from the Executive Branch of our government will address Rotarians in the Caucus Room of the Cannon House Office Building. During the remainder of the day members will be free to explore the many FREE museums and other places of interest the city has to offer.

The Third Plenary Session on Saturday will run from 9:00 until Noon and will close with the District's annual memorial service, a moving tribute to those District Rotarians who passed away during the past year. The afternoon hours provide additional free time to tour the city prior to the Governor's Cocktail Hour, Fourth Plenary Session and Banquet.

The 2012 District Conference wraps up after breakfast on Sunday. All in all, it promises to be an enjoyable and memorable event. There's still time to make a reservation, but act fast!
