Your editor was very happy to have Roland Weimer as our guest speaker today and to have Phil Wells show up with his laptop so our speaker could give his Power Point presentation.
Guest speaker Roland was happy to have made the trip to the Dominican Republic to see first-hand the value of bio-sand filters and to be able to share his experience with us today.
Nancy S. was happy that her grand-daughter was unhurt in a car accident last week.

It has been announced that Sunday, September 21 has been designated as the date for our 2nd Annual 5K Run/Walk with Half-Way Hounds.
Bob Balentine invited members to attend The Paul Harris Gala being held at Seasons Restaurant, Washington Township beginning at 6:30 on Thursday, March 6. Guest speaker will be RI Director Nominee Jennifer Jones from District 6400 in Michigan and Canada. All are invited. $75.00 per person. RSVP stonespan@aol.com by Feb. 28.
PE Pat Little invited members to attend his next performance in the biographical drama about C.S. Lewis entitled Through the Shadowlands. Our PE has the lead in the play! Performances will be the 2nd and 3rd weekends in March. Contact Pat for further information.

Roland Weimer, President of the Rotary Club of the Palisades, has been a believer in Bio-Sand Water Filters since first learning about them three years ago. Earlier this month he travelled to the Dominican Republic to install 3 new filters and to see first-hand the impact previously installed filters were having on the lives of the people there.
Clean water is one of Rotary International’s areas of focus. It is estimated that more than 2.5 BILLION people do not have access to clean water and/or proper sanitation. Bio-sand filters provide a low cost, low-tech means of addressing this problem in a way that is easy for local communities to maintain.
Invented in the 1980’s, the bio-sand filters have NO mechanical parts. They are designed to service up to 15 people for 20 YEARS! The local populations making use of them are highly accepting of them because they significantly reduce preventable disease, and they only cost $67.00 apiece!
A biosand water filter uses no electricity or fuel, and naturally filters 99.9% of pathogens (bacteria, viruses, contaminants).
