Announcements:
- Our next fellowship meeting is next Friday, August 13, probably via Zoom
- There will be an informal gathering Monday morning at 7:45 at the Park Ridge diner (outside)
- Dan noted that in September we are having a virtual 5K run to benefit our scholarship program and homeless dogs. It is hoped that our scholarship recipients will help promote the event.
- Terry noted that our Club’s Charitable Foundation has approved a sponsor level donation to support the Bergen-Passaic Walk for Alzheimers. It is hoped that our members will sign up for this event.
Sunshine:
- Terry lost her beloved dog Sherry and is marking a year since her mother’s passing. She also asked for prayers for her cousin who is in the ICU recovering from triple bypass surgery.
- Dan reported that Joeen was in a bad car accident but is recovering; Cindy volunteered to send a get-well card from club members.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who are currently contending with
adversity of one type or another.
Happiness:
- Everyone was happy to welcome our guests, the impressive students receiving Rotary scholarships and offered thanks for the fine work of Linda Hanlon and her scholarship committee
- Dan was happy about the success of the U.S. Olympic team, especially those in track and field competition
- June was happy about a visit from her California family and the upcoming family trip with all her beloved children and grandchildren
- Cindy was happy about the upcoming marriages of her niece and her goddaughter
Program:
On August 6, 2021 on a virtual meeting via Zoom, Park Ridge Rotary members welcomed this year’s college scholarship winners: Jack Long and Kelsey McConville.
The two scholarship recipients chatted briefly about their future plans.
- Jack Long is a graduate of St. Joseph’s High School. He plans to attend the University of Georgia. He noted that business, the stock market and numbers in general have always fascinated him and that he plans to major in Finance/business. His incredible emotional as well as academic strength emerged in the application process. He lost his father at an early age and helped his mom and younger siblings work through it. He has donated time to lonely veterans and helped the hungry through community projects sponsored by UNICO, including food drives. He played football and basketball in high School.
- Kelsey McConville is a graduate of Park Ridge High School. She plans to attend Salisbury University in Maryland. She is leaning towards a major in business. During her high school career Kelsey participated in Interact, helped with food drives and a program to help students with low self-worth. She received a Girl Scout Gold Award for creating a video to help seventh grade students adapt to the new Middle School environment.
