Birthdays and Anniversaries: Happy Belated Birthday to Peter Wells, Ryan Cangialosi and Nancy Collentine. August anniversaries were celebrated by Bob and Rosemary Bustard, Bernie and Carol Cohen, Jan and Annelien Doornbosch, Tara and Bobby Scheuerman and Peter and Linda Wells.

 

 

 

 

Members were especially happy to see Harriet Kallet today.

 

Harriet was happy to have the chance to be able to see old Rotary friends and meet new ones today.

 

Irma C. was happy to see the article about the 5K that appeared in today’s Community Life.

 

Cindy R. was happy to have obtained 5 additional sponsors.

 

June B. was happy to have been able to celebrate her grandson’s 1st birthday in California.

 

Stuart was happy to hear that his oldest grandson had received his first paycheck.

 

Bob Balentine was happy to have had a wonderful family gathering this summer at the Cape.

 

Fay L. was eagerly looking forward to an upcoming trip to Turkey with Helen.

 

Bob Bustard was happy to have been able to travel to Ireland and Sweden.

 

Steve H. was happy about his family’s upcoming trip to Hershey.

 

Brittany V. was happy for today’s Happy Hour.

 

Pres.-elect Phil was eagerly anticipating the cooler weather of fall.

Sun., 9/20 – Third Annual Park Ridge Rotary/Halfway Hounds 5K Run/Walk. Registration begins at 9:00 at the Park Ridge Municipal Pool, 120 Colony Ave., Park Ridge. Race starts at 10:00.

 

Sat., 10/10 – Rotary Leadership Institute – 7:30-3:30 – The Courtyard by Marriott, 100 Chestnut Ridge Rd., Montvale. Offering Parts I, II, III and Graduate. Register at www.rlinea.org and click on “Montvale NJ” under “Upcoming Events” in the left hand side-bar. Take advantage of the 2 for 1 arrangement.  If any 2 members from the same club take any part of the leadership course and show proof of attendance, the District will be reimburse them for one tuition for every two attending.

Tues., 11/10 - RI President, K.R.Ravindran will visit our District on Tuesday November 10, 2015. Greet him at a "Celebration of Rotary Service" Party to be held at Season’s, Washington Township, from 6.30 to 10.30. The "Celebration of Rotary Service" will recognize District 7490 Rotarians with over 40 years of Rotary Service.

President-elect Phil’s theme for today’s Happy Hour was “favorite fund raisers”. Members enjoyed reminiscing about the many activities carried out over the years in the never-ending quest to raise money for scholarships and the many causes we support.

 

Among the favorites recalled was the Goods and Services Auction held each November until 2008. At its height, the auction brought in over $25,000.00 dollars. For the last 28 years the Fresh Florida Fruit Sale has brought in significant sums of money each year and has created many good memories.

 

More senior members of the club recalled having conducted a circus, an Irish Wake, a Mardi Gras Party and a carnival. In more recent times our Cash Raffle has successfully added to the club’s coffers as has our participation in Lord&Taylor’s Charity Shopping Day and our various Beefsteak Dinners and Tricky Trays.

 

Of course the BEST fund-raiser of them all will be our Third Annual Park Ridge Rotary & Halfway Hounds 5K Walk/Run being held on Sunday, September 20. Like with all things Rotary, the more YOU become involved, the more successful the event will be and the more FUN you will have. Join in. Get a sponsor. Register as a participant. Encourage family and friends to take part. The more you can do, the more rewarding it will be. See you on the 20th.
