Announcements:

A job transfer has required Lisa Peck to resign from our club. She will be transferring her membership to the Hackensack Club. The club greatly appreciates all Lisa has done for us in the years she has been with us and wish her the very best in her new surroundings.

President Bob has announced the appointment of 2 new members to the Club’s Board of Directors: Ryan Cangialosi agreed to fill Lisa Peck’s seat and Bernie Cohen will assume the seat of Sargeant at Arms Steve Hopper since Steve is not allowed by By-Laws to fill both positions.

Linda Hanlon and Ryan Cangialosi are hard at work with representatives from Halfway Hounds in preparing for our September 22 5K Run/Walk. Registration form, Sponsorship form and Participation Waiver have been put onto the Download section of our website. We need 100% involvement of our membership to make this whole thing work. Sponsorships are available for as little as $100.00. Ryan will be updating the membership each week as to our progress. Everyone is asked to commit to obtaining at least 1 sponsor. Let Ryan know which business(es) or individual(s) you are contacting to avoid duplication.

Program:

Today’s program featured the presentation of our final scholarship for school year 2012-13 to Park Ridge High School graduate, Jonathan Hodgins.  Jonathan’s outstanding academic achievements, excellent recommendations, and countless hours of community service made his selection as one of our honorees inevitable.

Recipient of the school’s Random Act of Kindness Award, Tri-Varsity Athlete Award, and Bergen County Soccer Coaches’ Unsung Hero Award, Jon has been an umpire in the Park Ridge Baseball Program for several years and for the last 2 years has served as a Site Director for the Bergen County Charity Baseball Classic (http://www.memorialbenefit.org.) Jon is a graduate of the American Legion’s Boys’ State program, volunteered with the Bassmaster Fishing Outing for the Disabled, and with the Operation Grad 5K. In addition, he works part-time in his parents’ store and serves as a busboy at Woodcliff Manor. With all of this, he managed to be named to the National Honor Society, maintaining a 93.72 GPA while taking 3 AP courses and Physics Honors during his senior year.

Next month, Jonathan will begin pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Business at the University of Delaware where he hopes to become involved in some type of service oriented international exchange program. The club is enormously pleased to be able to present him with one of this year’s scholarships.
