Assessing Your Home's Energy Efficiency

 

 

On Friday afternoon, May 15, Park Ridge Rotarians welcomed guest speaker Michael Mulholland. Michael’s background is in construction and he is a licensed Home Inspector and Energy Auditor.   His company, Ciel Power, specializes in home energy assessments and upgrades. For example, in most homes, air changes two to three times faster than it should, increasing the loss of heat in winter and cool air in summer.

 

Michael explained that most states have an Energy Star program that provides rebates for audits and energy improvements. His company determines how client homes are wasting energy and then finds cost saving solutions and incentives to achieve energy efficiency.  His company also provides the paperwork to qualify for rebates and financing. The rebate program is a step program based on how much residents are saving on their utility bills. 

 

Michael responded to several questions about how his company remediates such issues as old wooden windows and home foundations. He also offered discounts on his $99 inspection fee to Park Ridge Rotary members.
