Program

On August 18, 2017 at Bellissimo Ristorante in Montvale, members of the Park Ridge Rotary gathered to hear a presentation by Carl Zive, President of Halfway Hounds. Carl had a successful career in medical sales. He switched to starting his own company dedicated to calming dogs. That led to his involvement in rescue organizations, and ultimately Halfway Hounds, our partner in the 5K Run scheduled for September 17.

The goal of Halfway Hounds is to ensure that foster dogs are a good fit in the homes where they are placed.  When dogs are pulled from shelters they need to pass a temperament exam as well as a medical evaluation at the Park Ridge Animal Hospital.  They also receive some grooming and training in walking and other activities. This makes dogs more adoptable from a behavioral and health standpoint, although in some cases some dogs are placed in sanctuaries.

The efforts of Halfway Hounds cost a great deal of money, in spite of the many discounts offered.  Each dog easily costs about $1,000.  The Park Ridge Rotary Club is the second largest contributor to Halfway Hounds' activities.  Carl stated that he is thrilled that Halfway Hounds is our partner in the upcoming 5K running event.
