Dedication of soft room at Casper Police Department
City Council to cut the ribbon with donor organizations
Casper, Wyoming (September 19, 2017) – For over a year, the Casper Police Department’s Victim Services Division has wanted to create a “soft room” where law enforcement officers and staff can visit with victims and their family members in a comfortable, non-threatening location.
Domestic assault continues to be prevalent in our community. When victims come to the Casper Police Department (CPD) to report a crime upon themselves or a family member, they need to know that there is a comfortable refuge in which to speak and release their fears. The CPD has made physical changes in their building layout to accommodate a “soft room” right off the lobby in the Hall of Justice. The room is easily accessible so victims won’t be left in a waiting area.
Through the generosity of three local organizations, the furniture needed to create the “soft” aspect of the room has been acquired and the other aspects of the room have been completed by the CPD, along with photography donated by J.R.’s Hunt for Life. The City Council will formally dedicate the “soft room” in partnership with representatives from the donor organizations at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, September 26th from 4:00 – 4:30 off the lobby of the Casper Police Department/Hall of Justice across the street from Casper City Hall. The following donor organizations provided financial gifts which will offer a sustainable service to our community:
- The Casper Rotary Foundation
- Farnham’s Furniture Galleries - Chaz Farnham, President & Rotarian
- The Fraternal Order of Police, Casper Chapter
