This competition is open to all the citizens of the world. The winners will be invited to India for 5 days and will get involved in various informative and cultural activities.

ROGEC invites views and analysis from diverse and distinct cultures, fusing them together in a neatly woven bouquet. The issues like hunger, diseases, inequality, education, conflicts, etc are common across cultures and countries, the magnitudes and perspectives however are different. ROGEC aims to provide every individual in the Rotary fraternity a global platform to convey a story about the issues, reasons and resolutions.
Rotary Global Essay Competition (ROGEC) is being organized by Rotary Club of Pune Katraj (R.I. District 3131). By conducting this competition, we intend to achieve the following goals.
- Present an opportunity for citizens of this world to take part in a global competition and a chance to win a trip to India
- Increase fellowship among like minded people around the world by providing a platform to share their ideas and experiences with international fraternity
- Promote understanding on humanitarian issues
- Provide a platform for participants from diverse backgrounds to express their views through essays
Theme 2015 - World Understanding and Peace
"Peace is not the product of terror or fear. Peace is not the silence of cemeteries. Peace is not the result of silent repression. Peace is the generous contribution of all to the good of all." - Oscar Romero
Peace is typically described as not having violence, avoiding being in conflict and most importantly not being under constant fear of brutality. However on the other side of the coin, peace is also a way of life, it is about having constructive relationship not only every human being, but environment as whole. The concept of peaceful existence extends right from constraints of an individual's mind to that of a family and from the community that you live in to national and international levels.
Some people tend to see violence as the best means to resolve a conflict. Leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and others have set examples of how human rights can be established through non-violent means. These leaders have professed that peaceful behaviours that are kind and considerate to humanity will manifest goodwill.
We bring this essay competition to the fore because,
- We believe that it is not only the responsibility of national leaders to establish peace but every individuals contribution that will be result in peace.
- We think that building compassion towards the problems of the other individual or society is going to support the path towards world peace.
- We consider that more human collaboration across boundaries in an informal environment will improve understanding and mutual respect.
- History has shown time and again that individuals have power to shape institutions and we consider that this endeavour will put forth new ideas, solutions and hopefully new leaders.
