President Richard Schwahn called the meeting to order promptly at 12:30, with the ring of the bell and welcomed everyone to today’s meeting.

- Jim Anderson announced that Rotarian Dick Dresang’s Funeral will be Friday June 22 at 11:00 at Our Lady of Fatima Church.
- Jim Porter announced that Lisa Scroggins’ husband had rotator cuff surgery and is out now and doing great.
Rotarians of the Week:
- Maribeth Plocek nominated Rob Ratliff for cooking hamburgers at the Father’s Day event.
- Bill Schilling nominated everyone who helped with the fence building at Rotary Park last Saturday, Vickery Fales-Hall and her two kids, Carley Applegate, Michele and Cordell Wistisen, John Lawson, Brian Deurloo, Tom Crull, Brad Cundy (Skid Steer), Guy DeWitt (Water), Greg Brondos, Dick Jay, Dick, Tom Thorson and his two guys Larry and Kevin (Auger and Skid Steer), and Vickie Diamond (Donuts and Coffee).
- Dan Odell nominated Susie McMurry and Susan Thomas for being sponsors for the Iris Clubhouse, and Kodi Merschat for being on their board.
- Mike Sullivan nominated Dan Odell for the article in the paper and for his cooking skills at the Iris Clubhouse.
Announcements:
- Bill Schilling announced that anyone under the age 35 and is interested in a position on the Endow Economic Development Council please contact him. Also he obtained some trees and bushes so Saturday June 30th he will need a crew to plant these up at Rotary Park.
- Peaches Lynch nominated her Daughter Genevieve for always helping her with Rotary things. She then announced that they are very short on sponsors for the Golf Tournament so if you know of anyone or you can be a sponsor please let her know. Also we will have our exchange student arrive in August and we are still in need of two more host families for him.
- Jim Porter let us know that the Rotary ride is still on for the weekend of July 21 and 22nd. There are about 11 motorcycles going but it is not just for motorcycles, you can follow in your vehicle as well. Please let him know if you are interested, Martha Rakestraw would like to go so if anyone going has room for her please let her know.
- Lisa Scroggins reminded us that there is an orientation on Wednesday June 27th at 5:00 at Raca’s Pizza in the private dining room.
- Phillip Rael let us know that the Duck Derby tickets are ready so please pick them up as you leave today. We need everyone to sell all of their tickets, we are also trying out online ticket sales this year. On the table is the organization chart of who all is working on the Derby this year.
- Carley Applegate told us that if you know of any non-profits that are having events to let her know so that we can work with them on promoting their event in conjunction with the Duck Derby and have them give away a ticket as a prize in order to help them as well as us. Also she said that they are in need of an additional person on the prize committee.
Program (Lisa Scroggins NCPL):
President Elect Dick Jay introduced our speaker, Lisa Scroggins, who spoke to us about the Natrona County Public Library and all of the great things they are doing. She started by telling us about the new Creation Station which they just launched with a Grand Opening last week. It is a maker space where anyone can go in and work alone or with people on any type of projects. They have materials and equipment like sewing machines, Cricut, a Carvey (which does 3D carvings out of various materials), an embroidering sewing machine, laminator, rotary cutter, and other great things to work with. They will be adding additional classes and equipment like Fly tying. There are also STEAM activities for youth so they can explore and create.
She then spoke more about the rest of the Library and how it should be a center of a thriving community. Libraries are no longer just collection centers for books. They are no longer quiet places but they do still have quiet spaces when someone needs one. Today’s Library is now about the communities and everyone who comes through the door. They have noted that as the economy drops their visitors increase. They address workforce issues like skills training, technology training, and resources for businesses, different HR trainings and such for businesses as well as workers. They have special “craftastic” programming on the weekends for the whole family. They are ahead of most other libraries at responding to the users and getting things that they want and need. Availability and training in technology is a huge part. They also have partnered with Ingles to do ESL classes as the library and they have volunteer instructors and had 54 students this past class. It has had a great impact on nonnative English speakers. They have started up different Book Clubs that meet around the community and are for different generations and styles of readers. They are starting up a chapter book club which is a franchise they have joined up with for cognitively impaired readers and is run by volunteers to help them. They are working on the aesthetics to make the Library even more welcoming. The Library is made for collaboration so more people can work together for anything they want to do. Multi-use spaces are also important to be flexible for many different types of use for the community. They have some of those spaces but could use more space to be better able to meet the needs of the community. She noted that they have lots of partners and sponsors in the community which they are very thankful for. She then opened it up for questions, she asked that we spread the word about all of the cool things that the Library has and does.
President Richard Schwahn concluded the meeting at 1:25 letting us know that next week we will be back at the Ramkota.
