President Chris held a Club Assembly meeting

"Every Copy, Every Week; into Every Rotary Home!"

Last Meeting July 31st 2007

Pres Chris welcomed Rotarians and guests to our Club Assembly meeting and asked PP Danny to lead us in the singing of the National Anthem and Secretary Doug the Rotary Grace.

Attendance: Joining our 17 Rotarians this week we had visiting Rotarian Curry Wilford from Eastern Maryland who was joined by his guest Tim Fury.  Also with us was PP Owens wife Pam.  Being in "residence" this week PP Jim led us in our welcome song to our visitor and guests.

Student Loan Fund :  Rtn Lidge manned the desk this week and asked our visiting Rotarian Curry Wilford to draw the winning tickets for the SLF Raffle which were held by PP Russell winning the first cash prize and PP David trying his best for the $595 Jackpot, but still could not find the Ace of Hearts.

Business :

Bermuda's Caves: Pres Chris through Rtn John Cooper has received a request from a travel reporter in the US who would like to write an article, for a Rotarian Magazine, about any Rotarian here who has an abiding interest and knowledge about Bermuda's caves and/or its nature reserves or parks.  Please let Pres Chris know if you can help.

Sponsorship Request : Pres Chris read a letter from Aaron Bassett a student from Saltus who is very active in the community who is looking for sponsorship, please see Pres Chris if you would like to help.

HRC Raffle :  As time is getting on for our raffle in October Pres Chris has been trying to find out from Dir Joanne, who has been off the Island for some time, where we are with some of the major prizes she was working on.   PP Keith will follow up with the Market Place and Lindos to see what the status is.

York Town N.Y. Raffle : Pres Chris has received an e-mail from the Rotary Club of York Town N.Y. to see if anyone is interested in tickets for their raffle.  They are selling a maximum of 300 tickets at $100 each for a prize of $10,000.  The draw will be on 28th September.

Halloween Party - Club Fund Raiser : Dir Joy ran over the outline for this fund raiser that she is spearheading.  It will be held at Joy's house on 30th October with 15 tables of eight, with dinner, and will cost $125 per person. Dir Joy has arranged with Volcanic Productions to loan us their equipment for the event. There will be 100 balloons on sale for $20 each which will have a number inside that will be exchanged for a surprise gift.  Dir Joy is looking for each of us to provide at least one wrapped gift, which does not necessarily need to be something new, but with a minimum value of $20 to be used as a surprise gift.   In the spirit of Rotary and the support of your club, please support Dir Joy and her committee in this effort even if you will not be able to attend.

Lunch:  The directors resolved that we should keep the cost of lunch for Rotarians at $27 but reduce the cost for guests to $25.  The additional two dollars from each member will be used toward the cost of lunches for our exchange students and the speaker.

International Project : Dir Jim ran over the project we are working on to support Bermudian Diane Kirwin and Kirff Bodgy in India.  The water part of our project we have managed to get our District to also adopt, which will bolster our efforts.  Dir Jim also visited St Georges club this last week in an effort to convince them to join us so that this becomes a Rotary Bermuda project.

Honorary Membership :  Pres Chris proposed a motion to the club that we make Pam Darrell an Honorary Member, which was agreed unanimously.
