Paraguay, one of the smallest countries of South America, with a population of about 6.000.000 it is called "America's Heart" because is situated right in the middle of South America having along the north borders Bolivia and Brazil, Argentina to the south. Brazil to the east and Bolivia and Argentina to the west. 
 

The capital is Asuncion and the languages are Spanish and Guarani.  The President (elected this year); is Fernando Lugo. The Currency is Guarani (4 thousands Guarani's are equal to one US dollar). The Principal economic areas are Agriculture and stockbreeding such as cattle, sheep, and horse.

  Paraguay enjoys a climate that varies from a too hot temperature during the majority of the year. Summers are long; winters are mild and short, albeit in the months of July and August.  Paraguay is a landlocked country; it accesses the sea through its neighbors. Argentina. Brazil and Uruguay, and in times past, it did so via its large rivers, particularly the Paraguay River, the 4th mightiest river of the world.  Some 400 kilometers after flowing through the middle of Paraguay.   The river forms the border with Argentina, flowing generally south-southwesterly for another 275 kilometers before it reaches its end, joining with the Parana River.

Political divisions and important cities:   Paraguay is divided in two regions, occidental and oriental, and in 17 states; the CentralState is the location of the capital of Paraguay, Asuncion.  In addition to the capital, other important cities include Encarnacion, Villarrica, Coronel Oviedo. Pedro Juan Caballero and Ciudad Del Este.  Ciudad Del Este is classified as the third city in free commerce of the world after Hong Kong and New York.

Energy Production:   Paraguay is an important producer of energy and relies on two hydroelectric plants constructed to take advantage of the enormous potential of its rivers:  The "Yacyretá", and "ltaipu", and is considered the largest hydroelectric plant in the world.

Paraguayan Flag:   The Paraguayan flag displays three horizontal bars of equal width, one red, one white and the other blue. Red: Justice, White: Peace, Blue: Liberty.  On the obverse side of the flag, the flag bears a coat of arms portraying a lion accompanied by a Phrygian cap along with the inscription "Peace and Justice"; on the reverse side, another coat of arms is portrayed, with a palm branch and an olive branch curving to form a wreath, encircling a star.

National flower:   The national flower of Paraguay is the mburucuya, or passion flower.  Other typical and emblematic Paraguayan tree is the Tajy in Guarani, or Lapacho in Spanish. They are three different colors of Lapacho or Tajy, Pink, Yellow, and White. The White is now in extinction.

National music:   Paraguay has two musical beats that identify it: the Polka, and the Guarania.

Dance:   One of the dances that we offer to the tourists who visit Paraguay is the Bottle Dance; it consists of girls who dance with one to ten, sometimes more bottles over their head.

Paraguayan gastronomy : (food and drinks)  The "Sopa Paraguaya" is Paraguayan Soup and the only solid soup of the world, done with corn flour.  And the "Chipa'. traditional bread kneaded with cassava starch.  Finally, 'Mate" and Terere" cannot be forgotten, the infallible infusion and ritual that Paraguayans consume every day, with its stimulating abilities which come from the gourd flask in which one puts the yerba mate and then adds hot water to mate or cold water for terere, then sucks through a metal straw. The flavor and the goodness of the mate can improve one's well-being with medicinal herbs.
