We were pleased to welcome fellow Rotarian Steve Rutledge, President of Adopt A Village in Laos, who gave us a very informative presentation about the organization’s 2026 projects and its ongoing work in rural Laos.

Adopt A Village in Laos is a Canadian registered non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people in remote rural villages in northern Laos. Its primary mandate is to provide new water sources, clean water, education facilities and sponsorships, hygiene training, and hygienic toilets, with a particular focus on rural communities.

Steve shared how these projects are making a meaningful difference in the daily lives of villagers. The organization has provided water filter systems to more than 100 villages and completed more than 30 permanent water supply projects, including dams, pipelines and reservoirs. In 2025 alone, more than 5,000 villagers received filtered water.

The organization’s work extends beyond clean water. Adopt A Village in Laos also supports schools and classroom construction, provides school supplies, promotes hygiene education, offers reusable menstrual hygiene kits to students, and provides scholarships for post-secondary education.

Steve’s presentation gave us a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the challenges facing rural communities in Laos and the practical ways that Rotarians, donors and supporters are helping to create healthier and more sustainable communities.

Thank you, Steve, for sharing the important work of Adopt A Village in Laos with us!
