This week after 9 months of waiting, the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International approved our grant to purchase cancer detection equipment to be used in the state of Tlaxcala, Mexico (where most of our Latino workers call home).  We are working with the Rotary Club of Tlaxcala to have the program up and running by this spring with the $13,000 of equipment mounted in a van so it can be taken to even the smallest rural communities. You may recall that the Latinos here in Jackson raised the entire $2655 themselves through a dinner dance fundraiser last February and gave the funds to our club to complete the project.

Now, we've been asked to fund another worthy project in Brazil.  We've worked with the Ivinhema Rotary Club once before.  This time they need a pickup truck to be used to gather food from local ranches and farms and other donations from the community to provide for a homeless shelter, serving 150 people on a regular basis.  The vehicle costs $9,000, but we need only raise $2250 as our portion of the grant.  We can earmark our Paul Harris donations to this cause.   For further information, please visit with fellow Rotarian Stuart Palmer.
