Norah Galvin's Speech:
Hi, I'm Norah Galvin. I am 10 years old. I'm in 5th grade and go to the Lake Placid Elementary School. I'm here to talk about my idea and how it grew to be STAR BOXES.
One day when I was playing in my room and I found a box, I gathered food, toys, clothes, and books and thought, wow, this could be a great idea for kids. Then I went to my school counselor Mrs. Brown, and she told me about the grant that I could apply for. I wrote a grant for $500 to create Star Boxes, as I like to call them. I was awarded $375 to make them as long as at least 4 more friends helped.
We needed to make 18 boxes for children in our school backpack program from K-3rd grade.
We had a meeting to decide who wold bring what. We got together the following week and made the boxes within 3 hours. I only used $110 because all my friends donated most of the supplies. This made me feel very happy and I hope to do another project soon.
