Hello Daybreakers
Our first official meeting for the 2019-20 Rotary Year was memorable with a new member inducted and an existing member receiving level 4 Paul Harris recognition. Ann Barker introduced our new member Andrew (Drew) Giblin. Drew is Human Resources Manager at WDEA and has already shown through his volunteer community work that he will be a valuable member of Daybreak into the future. Drew who is married with three children is warmly welcomed by our members and we hope he and his family enjoy the friendship and fellowship our Club offers.
Steve Bellamy returned to the podium to present member Chris Preston with a Paul Harris recognition pin. This is the fourth level Paul Harris Award that Chris has received. Congratulations on a great achievement Chris. I also presented Chris with his Vice President badge for the coming Rotary year.

In her absence, we congratulated Janey Preston as winner of the 2018 Benchmaster Championship. Janey is pictured with the large and impressive trophy she was awarded at the recent Target Rifle Victorian 2018-19 Presentation night at the Victorian State Championships held in Hamilton. More accolades go Janey’s way as she is the first female to win this title!

Glenn Rundell and his team have submitted a grant application to the WCC Community Development Fund for a $3000 grant to assist in the purchase of a new marquee for our Daybreak Club and to carry out repairs on our existing trailer. Many thanks for the time you spent doing this application Glenn. Let’s hope we are successful as our busy Christmas period of fundraising is just around the corner and the improvements will make it easier for all our members to carry out their community work.
Glenn is also currently updating our list of member qualifications and will be addressing the Club on this topic next week. Could members check on their Working with Children expiry dates and also update Glenn on any qualifications gained such as Food Handling or Responsible Serving of Alcohol?
On Thursday evening I attended the final changeover dinner in our region for the Rotary Club of Warrnambool East. Congratulations to Colin Brinkman for stepping up as East’s new President. As President of Daybreak I have found these are are valuable nights for networking and getting to know other members and Presidents of the Clubs that we work with in our region. An enjoyable night was had by all and hopefully I can get back to the weight I was before all the changeover dinners commenced!
Next week we have guest speaker Janet McDonald who will inform us on the operation of the Warrnambool Historical Society and History House. Janet, who is the current President of the Warrnambool Historical Society, has a wealth of knowledge regarding the history of Warrnambool and is a very engaging speaker; have your questions ready, she is a speaker not to be missed.
The 2019-20 theme Rotary Connects the World, begins in our community. While we currently have two members participating in overseas projects, what we do here and the image we project as Rotarians also has far reaching effects in the broader context.
