Hello Daybreakers,
 
I’m not sure about everyone else, but I had a fun morning at our combined races meeting. As usual my memory let me down in some areas – the magic word for the movie that I lost was “cabinet” and typically it came to me about 2 hours too late.
 
For those not there, I was giving a run down on the Movie we are running on the 30th of May. The movie is a British comedy, and is about an MP being selected for Cabinet, in celebration she hosts a dinner for family and close friends. Everything that can possibly go wrong does – it sounds like it will be a great movie, I hope you can attend, and please bring your friends along.
 
We were lucky enough to have the CEO of the Warrnambool Racing Club, Peter Downs talk to us. Peter has a strong family history in Rotary but made it very clear that his job and wife will not allow him to join at this time. Peter also told us about the impact that the racing carnival has on the Warrnambool economy, as the vast majority of race goers are not locals. It is always good to see accommodation booked out and restaurants and pubs very busy during race week and it certainly has a knock on effect for additional employment and money generated in many businesses. I found it interesting to get a different perspective on the week.
 
German Youth Exchange student Ben will be heading home soon, Warrnambool Club is holding a farewell BBQ for him Sunday at the home of Trevor Williams.
 
The raffle and lucky numbers were well supported and we raised around $200.00 for Australian Rotary Health.
 
The great horse race is always a spectator favourite. In the end it was a three horse race, with Barry, Sue and East’s Ian MacDonald. Sadly Sue took out second, and Barry third – but that is better than the rest of us managed.
