President's Chat
Pres Chat 23/11
Hello Daybreakers,

This week we had the Executive Officer Kate Roach of the Leadership South-West Coast Inc. as guest speaker.
Kate’s enthusiasm for the leadership program is inspiring and encouraging people with desires to be good
local leaders in our community.

The mission statement is to empower local leaders for global input. The demographics appear to be people in business
and / or community service leaders over the age late 20’s into their 30’s and older.

The program appears to be the brainchild of Josie Black in or about 2012.

Josie Black was the driving force of the South West Community Foundation.

I was familiar with Niel Black and his dedication and contribution to the dairy industry in the South West and a great
supporter of the Gardner Foundation.

I noticed that one of the sponsors was Gardner foundation which provides financial support to the agricultural students
and in particular in the dairy industry.

We heard that the program has on average annually approximate 12 candidates with the focus of regional leadership
in the South West.

Syndicate groups are established with mentors to develop projects to enhance community service and support in the
South-West.

Projects included local indigenous connections, a community free food stand, a fundraising guide with instructions to
connect and network with the philanthropic trusts.

The programs focus on developing networks, personal development and public speaking as well as becoming
good leaders within the community.

Given our own focus of the homeless program it will be a wonderful partnership if the Leadership South-West Coast Inc.
and the next intake of candidates were to be project also our homeless program. I hope that Kate Roach will take this
on board as we need all the support we can get.

We have purposely circulated the district Governor’s Annual Report 2021 - 2022.

We encourage anybody to read the report as District Governor John Clue had a lot of valid points in his report about the
District 9780. I concur with John's remarks under the heading Remember though not an issue in our own Club but a
friendly reminder:

‘Rotary and your club are not about the individual.

 Every member is equal.

Respect individual beliefs, opinions and ideas.

Respect the person.’

Cheryl and I will be attending the Clontarf Academy on Wednesday 23rd November 2022 in the evening and will report back.

Please do not forget that our own AGM will be held on 30 November 2022 at our breakfast meeting. In addition, on the
same day the R100 tree planting project.

So members who put up their hand to attend between 10am and 2pm could you please confirm with Glenn of your
attendance for manpower coordination.

So far we have got 22 confirmed members, inclusive of partners, for our annual Christmas party at my residence
and I again thank the catering committee for all their assistance and coordination.

We will be entering into our busy period with the summer barbecues and I have been informed by Ian Harper
watch this space as things are quite fluid during this period and things can change when members can't attend or
unable to attend.

So until next week, let’s imagine, Rotary!!!

Paul Harris - First but Not First

Was Paul Harris the first president of a Rotary Club? No.

Was Paul Harris the first president of Rotary International? Yes.

There is an easy explanation to this apparent contradiction. Although Paul Harris was the founder and organizer of the first Rotary club in Chicago in 1905, the man selected to be the first president was
one of the other founding members, Silvester Schiele.

By the year 1910 there were 16 Rotary clubs, which linked up as an organization called the National Association of Rotary Clubs. Two years later the name was changed to the International Association of Rotary Clubs, as Rotary was organized in Winnipeg, Canada, and then in England, Ireland and Scotland. In 1922 the name was shortened to Rotary International.

When the first organization of Rotary clubs was created in 1910, Paul Harris was selected as the first president. He served
in this position for two years, from 1910 until 1912. Thus, the founder of the Rotary idea, who declined to be president of the first club, became the first president of the worldwide organization, Rotary International.

LAUGHTER, THE BEST MEDICINE

Turns out that being a "senior" is mostly just googling how to do stuff.

I want to be 18 again and ruin my life differently. I have new ideas.

I'm on two diets. I wasn't getting enough food on one.

I put my scale in the bathroom corner and that's where the little liar will stay until
it apologizes.

My mind is like an internet browser. At least 19 open tabs, 3 of them are frozen,
and I have no clue where the music is coming from.

Hard to believe I once had a phone attached to a wall, and when it rang, I picked
it up without knowing who was calling.

Apparently, RSVP-ing to a wedding invitation "Maybe next time" isn't the correct
response.

So, you’ve been eating hot dogs and McChickens all your life, but you won’t take
the vaccine because you don’t know what’s in it?

There is no such thing as a grouchy old person.  The truth is, once you get old you
stop being polite and start being honest.

----------------------------------------------------

The Lone Ranger and Tonto went camping in the desert. After they got their tent
all set up, both men fell sound asleep. Some hours later, Tonto wakes the
Lone Ranger and says, 'Kemo Sabe, look towards sky, what you see? '

The Lone Ranger replies, 'I see millions of stars.'
What that tell you?' asked Tonto.

The Lone Ranger ponders for a minute then says, 'Astronomically speaking,
it tells me there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets.
Astrologically, it tells me that Saturn is in Leo.
Time wise, it appears to be approximately a quarter past three
in the morning. Theologically, the Lord is all powerful and we are small and
insignificant. Meteorologically, it seems we will have a beautiful day tomorrow.

What's it tell you, Tonto?'

'You dumber than buffalo sh*t. It means someone stole the tent.'

----------------------------------------------------

On Sunday morning my husband surprised me by saying he had $100 to spend and if I could get ready while he was working in the garage, we could
go out in an hour.

I imagined a lovely lunch overlooking the water or maybe choosing a
Christmas present!

You can imagine my face as I walked out later to see his Ute piled up with things
he no longer wanted.
“This lot should cost about $90 to get rid of at the tip, then we can get a burger somewhere,” he grinned.

----------------------------------------------------

Recently, I bought a cartridge for my printer. It came in a box mounted on a card
and wrapped in plastic. When I took it apart, I found that the printer cartridge itself
was actually quite small, but they made the packaging unnecessarily large to make
it harder to steal and to make the customer feel better about the high price.

I pointed this out to my wife and mentioned how my weight gain over the years
of our marriage should have the same effect: It made me seem more valuable
and also made me harder for other women to steal.

She's still laughing.

----------------------------------------------------

A woman walks into a post office one day to see a middle-aged, balding man
standing at the counter systematically pasting ‘Love’ stamps on bright
pink envelopes with hearts all over them.

He then takes out a perfume bottle and starts spraying scent all over them.
The woman’s curiosity gets the better of her and she walks up to the balding man
and asks him what he is doing.

The man says: “I’m sending out one thousand Valentine’s Day cards signed,
‘Guess who?'”

“But why?” asks the woman. The man replies: “I’m a divorce lawyer.”

----------------------------------------------------

My brothers wife has been pregnant for five months & decided that
they wanted to reveal the gender of the baby at our family reunion of about 40 people.

One night just after finishing up a barbecue, my brother and his wife stand up
and announce to the family they’re going to have a little baby girl.

Everyone started cheering naturally. Once that had died down, I shout out
"Do you have a name for the baby yet?”

My brother replies
"Yeah, Leanne Noelle”

Everyone starts going "Ooooo” and "Ahhhh” and "How pretty is that name”

After a moment I shout "How the hell are you supposed to spell Leanne
with no L?”
