President's Chat
Steve's Chat 13
Hello all,

This week approximately 21 Daybreakers attended the “Father of The Year” presentation breakfast held at City Memorial Bowls Club.

The event run by the Rotary Club of Warrnambool in partnership with Brophy Family & Youth Services is in its 10th year.
The event was originally organised to recognise and promote the importance of good fathering and male role modelling that we have in our area.

Entry forms are delivered to all primary schools across Warrnambool City and Moyne Shire.  Students can nominate their fathers, or a male father-figure.  The event received over 1200 entries.

Judging all the entries can be a difficult task, with many touching and sometimes humorous entries.

The following forms part of the entry from the overall Father of the Year recipient Adrian Hallam’s daughter.

“My dad makes me feel special because I am really proud of him.  I am proud because he has suffered from migraines for 30 years and he still has them.  He doesn’t let this stop him from helping others.  His passion is to help others suffering from similar things.  He has helped people who have cancer, headaches and health problems.  He runs a boot camp very early in the mornings to help people try and stay fit and healthy.

My dad donates blood to help people who are lacking it.  That makes me feel really proud of him.

My dad loves me and I love him.  This is why he should be Father of the Year.  He is truly the very best dad in the whole wide world”

Had a couple people asking how trees are going that we planted in Showgrounds earlier in the year. Please see a couple of photos taken today. Most trees seem to be growing well and I didn’t notice any fat rabbits running around. Another Rotary success story. Thanks again to all who assisted in the 2 working bees to shift mulch and plant the trees.

LAUGHTER, THE BEST MEDICINE

Abraham wandered into Sam’s pawnshop and placed A leather coat on the counter. “How much will you give me for this jacket?”

Cam checked it over. “$20, and that’s the best”
“But that jacket is worth $100.”
Sam was adamant. “$20 or nothing.”

“Are you sure that’s all it’s worth?” pressed Abe “Positive”

“Okay,” said Abe.  “Here’s your $20.  The jacket was hanging in your doorway and I was wondering how much it was worth.”

A general noticed one of his soldiers behaving oddly. The soldier would pick up any piece of paper he found, frown, say, “That’s not it”, and put it down again.

This went on for some time until the general arranged to have the soldier psychologically tested. The psychologist concluded that the soldier was deranged, and wrote out his discharge from the Army.

The soldier picked it up, smiled, and said: “That’s it.”

Guy: 'Doctor, my girlfriend is pregnant but we always use protection and the condom never broke. How is it possible?'

Doctor: 'Let me tell you a story. There was once a hunter who always carried a gun wherever he went. One day he took his umbrella instead of his gun and went out. A lion suddenly jumped in front of him. In order to scare the lion, the hunter used the umbrella like a gun, and shot the lion and killed it!'

Guy: 'Nonsense! Someone else must have shot the lion.'

Doctor: 'Good! You understood the story. Next patient, please.'

Celibacy can be a choice in life; or a condition imposed by circumstances.

While attending a Marriage Weekend, my wife and I listened to the instructor declare, 'It is essential that husbands and wives know the things that are important to each other.'

He then addressed the men, 'Can you name and describe your wife's favorite flower?'
I leaned over, touched my wife's hand gently and whispered, 'White Wings Self-Raising Flour, isn’t it?'

And thus began my life of celibacy.
