Hello Daybreakers,

This week, due to cancellations, we held a fellowship meeting.  Among other things we spent time discussing our Group 5 fellowship trip to Portland, Chris was quick on his feet and asked Ann, Serge and Bob to pass on their thoughts to the meeting.  Moving forward we hope to continue this as an annual fellowship event, perhaps in Port Fairy or Warrnambool next year.

Janey entertained us with some Rotary content on acronyms,  and then things got a bit silly with a fun session that Janey had put together for the children and grandchildren meeting while I was on leave.  It took us a while to figure out who we were, especially Bob…….. for some reason.

Last week I sent out two emails regarding a letter of thanks received from a RYLA applicant that we sponsored.  Mu Si Ler is one of the Karen refugees who have come to Nhill in recent years.  The following is her personal thanks.

“Dear Mr Stephen Bellamy,

I would like to thank you and the Warrnambool Daybreak Rotary Club, most sincerely, for sponsoring me to go to the RYLA camp. It was great to meet new peoples coming from all over Victoria and South Australia and building a strong relationship with them all, including the leadership team too.

RYLA was more than just a leadership camp. I truly enjoyed learning all about the topics the camp offer and now I have gained the skills for goal setting, public speaking, value-based decision making and leadership skills. I gained more confidence and have higher self-esteem compare to before. Each morning we were asked “what we chose to be”. Positive words were encouraged to guide in direction and we always ended the day with Reflections. Thoughts could be shared with the large group or in smaller groups, if that was less threatening. Doing these activities during the camp was very helpful and I can still do this after RYLA. Every day was different and full of surprises.

Some of the activities I like were the obstacles course, the hike to the beach, RYLA flight and other little activities we do between the session. Rules were presented in a fun way and very engaging.

I also met many friends and I’m sure they will be a long-term distance friends because of the strong bond we built in RYLA.

Thank you once again for sponsoring me to go to RYLA. I am now able to recommend young peoples to go and have the same positive experience like me. Thank you.

Kindest regards
Mu Si Ler “”
On Sunday Sue Cassidy, Peter Smid and I attended
the Care Program at Surfside 2.
After we fumbled around sorting out the power issues
we managed to get the washing machines and dryers
working. Peter cooked some snags while we
had a good chat to the two clients that attended.
Thank you, Sue and Peter, for giving up
your Sunday afternoon.

Due to a double booking , this Week’s
meeting will be held in the smaller area
beside the larger meeting room
Please enter via the restaurant.
Our guest speaker will be Kelly Giblin
from the Kalay Academy.

To assist the club to transition into the next Rotary Year,
President Elect Liza will be holding a club
discussion forum on the 2019-20 committee positions.
A few days before that Liza will circulate her
thoughts via email
If you have any input before that please send an email
or message to Liza.  Please note that Liza will be Queensland this week.

Rotary members destigmatize opioid recovery

“A father’s concern and fear propelled sleepless Ben Lowry, an attorney in Portland, Maine, out into the streets one evening searching for his eldest son.

Just a year earlier, his son had been in college studying engineering when he began using drugs, including opioids. Lowry’s family spent more than $100,000 on treatment and recovery programs before Lowry gave his son an ultimatum: stop using or move out. His son moved out.”
