Hello Daybreakers,
This week’s meeting was well attended by members and guests. Philip Ritchie brought French exchange student Lea Constatin along to have a chat and update those present on the exchange students movie fundraiser.
Our guest speaker was Robert Coffey, who brought along Greg Allison, to talk about the Warrnambool Eisteddfod Society.
The Eisteddfod Society organises and stages an annual series of competitions in seven areas of the performing arts under the banner of the City of Warrnambool Eisteddfod. The objectives of these competitions are:
- to give competitors stage experience in the areas of speech & drama; vocal and instrumental music; classical and contemporary dance; debating; calisthenics; Highland dance and pipe organ
- to give competitors the opportunity to receive professional adjudication and feed back.
The Eisteddfod runs from May till September each year and offers 34 days of competition. During that time thousands of competitors take part
The Eisteddfod is a festival of performance, and of community. The organising committee is comprised of a group of volunteers who work from February to November to put together an eisteddfod which is intended to be a rewarding and enjoyable experience for all involved.
Volunteers are also invited to help with daily administration during each competition. The society are supported by sponsors which include the major local philanthropic trusts, the Rotary Clubs of Warrnambool, Creative Victoria, the City of Warrnambool, local schools, businesses and organisations and the families of past and present competitors and Committee members.

During the meeting we re-inducted past founding member, Barry Moran. It was up to Barry Brooker to introduce our newest member to the club. However, B2 did a great job of giving a brief history of his work both past and present. Welcome back Barry.
On Wednesday night Cheryl organised a fellowship meeting with Geoff Grec and family members. I am sure the evening went well.
Also on Wednesday night Liza and I attended a Rotary House committee meeting. More will be spoken on the outcome of that meeting in the coming days and weeks.

On Saturday Bob organised a grape picking fundraiser at Newtons Ridge Winery. Judging by the Facebook posts from Ann and Peter it was a glorious day for grape picking and enjoying the wine tasting. Thanks to Dianne, Peter, Jan and Ann who assisted Bob, Katy & Padma with the project.

On a warm sunny day, 5 Daybreakers and 2 conscripts (all quality, not quantity) took off for Newtons Ridge vineyard. We were warmly welcomed, pointed in the right direction, and duly applied ourselves to picking the best grapes we have encountered.
Hot cross buns for morning tea were nice, providing the energy for the second session up to lunch.
A lovely lunch (bbq and nicely filled rolls) was complimented by generous tastings of their wine range, and we all left with a bottle under our arm.
Oh, and they insisted on paying us, not a cheque in the mail, but a cheque for $500 in my pocket. A big thankyou to the team for a job well done.
On Sunday Ian Harper, Bob and Alison attended the Daybreak Care project at Surfside 2.
Ian Harper advises we had a total of 7 clients. This is an equal record of people attending.
There were 15 loads of washing done and 13 dryer loads. The showers were used, and some toiletries and clothes were provided to some clients. Thanks Ian, Alison and Bob for giving up their Sunday afternoon to assist.
While the seven above members were hard at work with service projects, 6 members travelled to Maryborough to attend the District 9780 Conference. We had lots of fun, especially Janey Preston who took out the best theme dressed female, and got to hear from a number of inspirational keynote speakers.
Many of the Keynote Speakers were outstanding, but the standouts for me were the CEO of Purple House Sara Brown, and Rotary International Presidents representative Stephen Hill.
