Hello Daybreakers,
This week’s meeting was changed to a Vocational visit to the community gardens, followed by a social evening meal at the City Memorial Bowling Club. Thanks, Glenn, for organising the evening and for supplying the following report.
“On Wednesday evening a group of Daybreak Rotarians attended the community gardens market in Grieve Street.
We were welcomed by members of the committee who gave us a brief talk about how the gardens operate, the Wednesday evening market and their plans to landscape the adjacent old quarry.

The market operates every Wednesday from 3.00pm to 7.00pm and there were stalls selling local organic vegetables, cheeses, crafts, food and drinks. It was a very tranquil setting with a couple of guys playing guitar, bass and singing in the background.
The Community Gardens reps took us in to their new commercial kitchen and pointed out the large stainless-steel kitchen bench and rangehood which were purchased and installed with the assistance of a recent Daybreak grant. Ian Watson presented them with a small plaque he made to attach to the kitchen recognizing Daybreak's contribution.
Afterwards were given a cook’s tour of the gardens and other facilities. The group have done a great job in developing the site for community use. Following the community gardens visit we all had a meal and continued on with some fellowship at the City Memorial Bowls Club.”
At our meeting on Wednesday March 20th, we can look forward to hearing about the Warrnambool Eisteddfod from Guest Speaker Robert Coffey and have a bit of fun with Ian Watsons fun Session.
At some stage during the morning we will be re-inducting, past founding member, Barry Moran. With a good guest speaker lined up, mixed with a bit of fun from Ian, I hope to see many of you offer the right hand of fellowship to Barry.
At our board meeting Cheryl tabled a request for funding from local farmer Glen Britnell. Glen has a B-Double load of hay, donated by local farmers, to be distributed to Gippsland farmers. We have donated $1,000.00 to assist with purchasing the fuel required to transport the load.

On Friday many members, friends and Rotarians attended Julie Grec’s service held at Our Lady Help of Christians Church. It was a very moving service and I can still hear the song “Sing”- by the Carpenters, as the pall bearers brought Julie past our Honor Guard. Most of those present were able to have a chat and share memories of Julie after at Proudfoots.

On Saturday, Jan, Liza and I held a planning meeting to discuss how we could best present our club Discussion/Assembly on moving forward . There was plenty of positive discussion and we hope that most members will be able to attend. This can be a forum where we all have an opportunity to provide positive feedback on our year to date and perhaps workshop a potential new major fundraiser.
Please talk to Jan, Liza or myself over the coming days, as always, we are ready to listen and help you move the club forward through our 21st and into our 22nd year.
On Thursday May 30th we will be holding a movie fundraiser event at the Capitol Cinema. Sue has booked Rocket Man – the life and times of Elton John. This is sure to be an entertaining movie and another excuse for us to get together, have some fun and raise funds for our wider community. The Board has decided to make this an End Polio fundraiser to enable us to get further 2 for one support from the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation.
