Our guest speaker this week was David McMahon, the Manager -Visitor Economy - at Warrnambool City Council.
Before discussing his current role, David gave us a brief rundown of his employment history including:
• Manager Business Development & Events at Ballarat Regional Tourism
• Events Manager at Ballarat City Council
• Event Contracts Manager - G4S -United Kingdom
Projects included Wimbledon Championships & London2012 Olympic Bid.
David showed us the current Warrnambool branding/tourism video before updating us on:
- Future planning for growth and necessary upgrades at the Surfside caravan park
- Future planning for flagstaff hill, including the budgetary restraints due to the number of visitors to the facility compared to larger regional municipalities
- New lighting around trees in Liebig street and Christmas decorations
- A proposed “secret” event planned for the Lake Pertobe area over the Christmas Holliday period.
