Over the past week we have become aware of the State Governments vaccine mandate directions that apply to all not profit organizations as of 15th October 2021.

These directives will make it mandatory for all volunteers that engage in work (voluntary or otherwise) to be vaccinated with their first jab then become fully vaccinated. A record of members who have been vaccinated must be maintained, note, that copies of vaccination certificates are not to be held. Unvaccinated members, friends of Rotary, volunteers etc. will not be permitted to engage with Rotary activities and/or events. The Government directive will apply to all activities and programs of Rotary.

It is important that your Club refers to this week's District Newsletter where you find the relative Links to the Government sites that provide the full details. I recommend that you all make this matter an item on your next Club meeting agenda. 

I have requested an opinion from the District Legal Officer Sergio Bacchetti as to the best option to implement this directive. 

Please note this is not a Rotary directive but a Government compliance directive that it to be taken seriously.

Following discussions and a verbal report by Sergio, it was decided that Glenn Rundell will be the Authorised Officer to register member’s names who have been vaccinated. Glenn will only need to site the Covid-19 document to register your name.  

Minutes of Meeting

After a short discussion, it was decided to combine the weekly Daybreak Bulletin and Minutes together.

Coffee Cards for Front Line Workers

After further conversations with Rotarian Matt Northeast; the following was where this project is up to.

• The coffee cards are for the first responders at South West Healthcare

• Four Café’s have been approached to provide the coffee cards.

  • Café Lava

  • Bohemias

  • Toto

  • Bright Bird

  • Is there any other cafes that Daybreak think should be approached?

• The other clubs have pledged the following amounts:

  • East - $1200

  • Central - $2000

  • Warrnambool $1500

Backyard Blitz

Now that the weather is much conducent to working in the open, we must return to Annie’s house and finish off her backyard. To complete the task we must:

• Remove all existing grass and ivy that has been stockpiles.

• Lay plastic down and cover with bark.

I recently went and had a look at another property that falls within the same criteria as Annie’s place.

Foodshare Challenge

Dear Presidents and Secretaries,

As you may be aware, one of our local projects is supporting the Warrnambool District Foodshare.

With Christmas fast approaching, the Rotary Club of Warrnambool would like to challenge all Warrnambool Clubs to donate Christmas items to Foodshare to assist those families who may not be able to provide for themselves over the Christmas break.

I am hoping that we can make this an annual event, and there will be a trophy for the winning club.  I would be happy to attend one of your meetings (via zoom of course) to talk more about the challenge.

The challenge would run in the week Nov 22 to Nov 26.

Meeting Minutes

Ali Dennis presented a clever “story” using every Rotary acronym & invited members to see how many they knew.

The Rotary Language (as spoken by Imaginary Rotarian):

As an AM (Active Member) and PP (Past President) of my local RC (Rotary Club) I was sitting at my desk the other morning doing some work for LRAG (Literacy Rotarian Action Group), which is one of the RAG’s (Rotary Action Groups) I assist … and I got to thinking about how Rotary really has “changed lives” for me personally.

My involvement with Rotary began at a young age … when I was a participant in the RYE (Rotary Youth Exchange) program. When I returned home from the exchange I was nominated to attend RYPEN (Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment) by the PDG (Past District Governor) of our RD (Rotary District).

Whilst at University studying to become a teacher I became a member of the campus RAC (Rotaract Club). During this time, I was also nominated to be a representative on ROTEX (Organisation of ex Rotary Exchange Students) by a SAM (Senior Active Member) of the RC that had originally sponsored me as a RES (Rotary Exchange Student).

After qualifying as a teacher, I moved around a bit and found being a Rotarian was a great way to became involved in each new community I re-located into. I even travelled overseas as part of a RITE (Rotary Inter-Country Teacher Exchange) program. This started a lifelong interest in ROVE (Rotary Overseas Vocational Exchanges) and GSE (Group Study Exchange). I even lead a GSE to Canada in 1994.

I feel so fortunate that Rotary has been such an integral part of my life, and that belonging to such a worldwide organization has enabled me to live the FFF&F (Fun, Family, Friendship & Future) dream. Whilst in Canada I took up skiing – and on my return to Australia I became a member of IFSR (International fellowship of Skiing Rotarians)

Travelling thru other countries over the years has made me appreciate just how lucky we are here in Australia. The poor health and lack of hygiene I observed in some of the poorer and less developed countries still astounds me. It also prompted me to work with Rotarians in programs such as DIK (Donations in Kind), POLIO PLUS (self-explanatory - Polio eradication program), PPE (Preserve Planet Earth), RAM (Rotarians against Malaria), and RAWCS (Rotary Australia World Community Service)
