Members Announcements
Reminder about the lunch meeting next Wednesday, 21st April. 12.30 for a 1pm start. $25 per head. This will be a joint meeting of all Warrnambool Rotary clubs to celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Australia. Lunch will be held at the City Memorial Bowls Club in the outside section, so dress warmly.

The Otto and Fran Walter Foundation has pledged $15.5 million to the Rotary Foundation to develop A Rotary Peace Centre in the Middle East or North Africa.

The new centre will offer a professional development certificate focussed on peacebuilding and development issues in the region

May Race Day. The breakfast will be held on Thursday 6th May at our usual venue, Lady Bay Bistro, therefore our normal breakfast will not take place.

ANZAC day will be very different this year. Only veterans and their families can attend the ceremony and there will be no formal wreath laying. Clubs that want to lay wreaths can do so after 9am.

Community members are asked to mark their respect by holding a minute’s silence in their driveway at 6am. Church bells in Warrnambool will ring at 1 minute to 6 and again at the end of the minute’s silence.

We will have our traditional breakfast at the Preston residence and if you are intending to be there let Janey or Chris know.

Meals on Wheels is back in full swing and the roster has been filled for the next month. Meals are already pre-packed so you will just need to check the name when delivering. Sanitizer is provided for before and after each delivery and masks must be worn.

The Salvo’s have been in touch to find out when our Care Project will resume. Since the wind down of the COVID measures to support the homeless the need has increased significantly. Harpo will organise a roster to go round.

Quiz – Gerard and Ian Harper led the way with two each

Fines – led by Bob
Gerard – week four of the football and not one mention of Hawthorn.
Mary – Snuck off to QLD for a week (departure tax)
Peter S – About to head off to Perth (departure tax also)
Sandra – When asked to put the speaker down he put the microphone down instead of the volume.
Barry M – Politically incorrect comment about previous and poor grammar. Should have said turn the volume down! Then put an IOU in the fines cup!
Chris – left his tradie pencil behind.

Guest Speaker
Lauren Edney – Service Manager Events & Promotions, Warrnambool City Council.

Lauren spoke about the Activate Warrnambool plan. With the cancellation of last year’s event due to COVID money normally allocated would be added to this year’s budget to provide $77k towards events this year. Council is attempting to support a wide diversity of activities that would be spread throughout the year. They are producing a Winter Events Calendar starting with the Winter Solstice  where there will be a function in the Botanical gardens with food and music.

The Community Development Fund will be open for applications in June/July to support clubs who wish to hold an event. These cannot be fundraising events.

The Activate Warrnambool Grants are available for 2021 only and are intended to support the safe return of event activations in Warrnambool.

Council will support safe, accessible, new events that create memorable experiences, drive visitation and have positive economic and community outcomes.

•    Increase visitation to Warrnambool
•    Support new event creation
•    Create memorable experiences that are unique to Warrnambool
•    Increase economic stimulus through increased spend
•    Develop a diverse, vibrant and inclusive annual calendar of events

In response to Covid-19, the requirement for applicants to meet the standard funding ratio of 1:1 for eligibility has been removed.

Priority will be given to applications that clearly align with above objectives and the Warrnambool Events & Promotions Strategy.

Whether you are organising a public or private event, if it occurs in any of Warrnambool’s public open spaces you need to get an event permit or permission.

If you are planning a public event in Victoria, it is your legal responsibility to ensure that you are designing a COVIDSafe event that does not risk the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

All public events must comply with the requirements of the Public Events Framework, including the attendee limits and density requirements. Depending on the scale and risk involved in running the public event, the event organiser must seek approval from the Victorian Government to run the event.

The Victorian Government has established a review process to review and approve events, ensuring public event organisers consider the appropriate infection prevention controls and public health advice as part of planning and delivery of the event.

On the Warrnambool City Council website you will find a “What’s on in Warrnambool This Week” section, that will inform you of what’s happening around the traps.
