Hello Daybreak Members and welcome to Bulletin 10
This week we joined the Rotary Club of Warrnambool for their Annual Father’s Day Award. Fourteen Daybreakers were in attendance for the breakfast meeting which was a really good turnout.
What a great Community event it is, sponsored by Brophy, 3YB/Coast FM, Bunnings and South West Credit and supported by many schools in the district. It was lovely and at times humorous to hear the children’s statements about their fathers. The overall winner of this year’s award was Jayce Dufty nominated by his daughter Grace. The family receives a weekend accommodation package with free entry into the Aquarium and other attractions. The various winners also received cash amounts and accounts from South West Credit.
Next week’s meeting will see us in the month of September and back at The Lady Bay Resort for our Breakfast meeting. September is Basic Education and Literacy Month on the Rotary Calendar. Our guest speaker will be Shaun Miller from WCC speaking on National Hydrogen Strategy with Mariettas Sweden.
ROTARY NEWS
District Interplast Committee Position - A Rotarian from the Warrnambool area is needed for the District Interplast Committee. The position does not require a great deal of work. Basically the person will reply to messages from the Committee, Organize a speaker from the Committee if required by District Clubs, circulate information to Clubs and assist with the raffle which is held every two years. Polio Update – As of August 21 it has been three years since any polio has been reported in Nigeria. Part of the fight against polio is creating awareness for polio eradication and advocating with governments to establish other basic health needs in communities. After Africa is certified polio free later next year, there will be five out of six World Health Organizations free of polio. World Polio Day is October 24 and Rotary International is calling on all members to maintain momentum and raise more awareness of the cause.
District Grants – A list of 2019-20 District Grants was recently published in the District Newsletter and it was pleasing to see Warrnambool Clubs listed. The Rotary Clubs of Warrnambool and Daybreak were each listed for grants for the Pumps and DIK for Schools Geelong/Warrnambool Clubs, and the Rotary Club of Warrnambool Central to provide specialised playground equipment for the disability sector. In total the Grants scheme distributed $99,626 to projects throughout the 9780 District.
Australian Rotary Health – October 10 is World Mental Health Day and Australian Rotary Heath will be raising awareness throughout the whole of October with a couple of projects. They will be celebrating Hat Day on October 10 and for more information on this fundraiser and how to get involved visit www.hatday.com.au The other event is the Bunnings/Lift the Lid weekend on October 5-6 in which daybreak will be participating with some other Clubs within the District – RCW, RCW East, RCPF. Chris and Janey are organising the particulars of the event such as roster and will be liaising with the other Clubs participating.
World Peace Conference – If you are travelling over the January period you may want to attend the World Peace Conference scheduled for January 17-18 at the Ontario Convention Centre, Ontario California. For more information and how to register visit www.peaceconference2020.org
