Hello members of Daybreak and welcome to Bulletin 32
Weekly Meeting – Our speaker this week was Daybreak member Geoff Grec who took us to the Panama Canal through a slide show highlighting aspects of his recent twenty-one day cruise.
It was most interesting seeing the docks that ships must pass through to navigate the journey to the other side. The fee to pass through is based on per capita, meaning it cost approximately $1million dollars for Geoff’s ship to pass through the canal; a very tidy money spinner for the country of Panama! Geoff wetted our appetite for travel to this destination and if one can stand the heat and humidity of the part of the world, it would be a very interesting cruise in which to participate.
Our speaker next, organised by Glenn, will be Paula Gardiner the Manager for the Reid Oval redevelopment project.
Future Guest Speakers and Fun Sessions – Listed below are the guest presenter and fun session roster for the weeks of February and into March. The rostered members are to either give a presentation or to organize another guest speaker. Remember that it can be just as interesting to hear the life story of one of our members, so don’t be too shy to speak about yourselves as it gives our newer members an insight into who you are and your life journey. Please advise me in advance if you have organized another speaker for your rostered session.

Social Night – Eleven members met for an enjoyable dinner last Friday evening at Proudfoots on the River. With our own private upstairs dining room we were able to have plenty of laughs without disturbing other patrons, and the food was delicious.
It is hoped to have more social functions throughout 2020 with the possibility of finally getting a wine tour scheduled at some time after the fishing trip to Portland which is planned for the weekend of February 29.
Clean up Australia Day – Due to other commitments Daybreak are unable to join other community members at the usual Clean Up Australia Day on March 1. Alternatively Glenn has organised with the Council that Daybreak members do their clean up two weeks later on Sunday March 15. More details regarding where to meet before (and possibly after) will follow at our weekly meeting.
The Care Program – The care program had six clients attend last week. Donations of deodorant (both male and female) are welcome, and of course donated clothes are always accepted.
Daybreaks’ Care Program has been one of the projects selected by the District Conference Committee to be featured in a video clip to be played at this years’ conference in Swan Hill. Janey and Chris have kindly volunteered to be interviewed about the project at the conference.
Board Meeting – Our February Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday Feb 18 and will be held at Chris and Janeys’ house, commencing at 7pm. Could Directors please circulate your reports to other Board members in adequate time to be read and considered prior to commencement of the meeting? If members have anything they wish to bring before the Board please email me and I will include on the Agenda.
The Long Lunch – For catering purposes, Jenny needs to confirm numbers this coming weekend. We do have a few spare tickets this year, so if you know of anyone that may wish to attend the event please contact them as soon as possible.
Foundation Movie Night – Sue is in the process of locking in dates for our next Foundation Movie Night which looks like being scheduled around the date of May 21 (tbc). I am Woman which focuses on the story of Helen Reddy and the impact of her iconic song, especially on the feminist movement, is our selected movie.

We are all so busy these days in what seems like an ever increasingly techno world full of phones, emails and hashtags and it is now, I think, more important to remember the value and benefits of human connection and how this may impact others in the community work we are involved with.
