Hello members of Daybreak and welcome to Bulletin number 20.
We are now into the month of November which is Foundation Month on the Rotary Calendar. This week our Guest Speaker, organised by Gerard Lourey, was Jess Moloney from the Dare Program of Brophy Family and Youth Services.
Jess outlined the many ways her team supports youth in family and community situations. It was obvious from her talk that there is a real need in the community for the services that her team provides. We also heard from Clancy McCoy who is being supported by Daybreak to attend the National Youth Science Forum in early 2020. Clancy expressed the importance of the opportunity to attend the NYSF at this stage in her development. Our speakers were followed up by Chez who wrestled some laughs from the members with her jokes, thanks Chez.
It is also pleasing to see Chez has a little more freedom in movement, now that her brace has been removed. Our meeting was kept in order by acting Sergeant at Arms Peter Cassady who is filling in for Geoff in his absence. Our speaker next week will be Matthew Stewart from Standing Tall.
Care Program Update – members received an update on the Care Program which has increased its clientele over the past few months, identifying the need for the program in our community, see Care Program report below.

Total of 377 Dryer loads
Total of $1,199 put through washing machines and dryers
Average No. of clients per week since start - 3.3 persons

Christmas Breakup – Our last meeting for the year will be at Andrew and Betty Suggett’s residence on the morning of December 18, and after consulting the members it seems the consensus is to consider this breakfast event as our Daybreak Christmas celebration rather than organising an extra lunch or dinner event. Given this, could members mark this date in their diary to ensure attendance and to celebrate the year that we have all worked together to make some difference in our community and hopefully the world in general. We will need an RSVP for the Christmas meeting as we will be self-catering. After consulting with the Treasurer (and often chief cook) a cost and RSVP date will be circulated to members closer to the date.
Group 5 Meeting – This week I attended the Group 5 meeting held in Port Fairy. This is a good opportunity to network with the other Clubs in our District and to hear what they are achieving and the different approaches they take in running their Clubs, some of which could be useful if adopted by Daybreak. By all accounts all Clubs have settled into the year and are achieving many of our objectives. It also seems we have the same gripes, in particular the various Rotary web-based platforms that need to be negotiated for reporting rather than one streamlined website, and also the reticence of members to take on Executive positions within their Clubs.
Membership and Public Image Seminar - The need for members to attend the membership and public image seminar scheduled for Port Fairy on November 23 has been raised by AG John Clue who suggested all Clubs should pay for training that their members undertake. Registrations are $35 and this will be reimbursed for members registering for the seminar. I plan on attending the seminar and would like at least two other members, possibly more, to attend, hopefully from the Membership and Strategic Planning Committee and also the Public Relations Committee. However, the seminar will be valuable for all members as all our projects and publicity for projects need to align with Rotary International guidelines for branding. We also need to find alternative and innovative ways to attract new members to our Club and the seminar should provide positive pointers in achieving this. Members can register on the district website or the link provided through the district newsletter.

Birthdays and Anniversaries – Best wishes go out to Barry “Bugsy” Moran who will be celebrating his birthday on November 9. We also have some Rotary anniversaries in this week; Bob Jeans celebrates twelve years as a Daybreaker on November 7, Jenny Turner celebrated ten years as a Daybreaker on Nov 5 and Mary Bouwman celebrates three years as a Daybreak member on November 9. Congratulations to those members.
We also send our best wishes to Bob for a speedy recovery from his hip operation. We will miss his presence in our meetings over the coming weeks.
