Hello members of Daybreak and welcome to Bulletin 13.

What a jam packed meeting we had this week with two engaging speakers! Max entertained us with images from his recent trip to the Hunter Valley that included a range of activities from touring the thoroughbred Godolphin and Coolmore Stables, to hot air ballooning, to sampling the range offered at some Hunter Valley wineries.  A very entertaining look at the Hunter Valley, thanks Max.

Our Guest Speaker at the meeting was Doreen Power, CEO of Lyndoch Living. Doreen brought the members up to date with the renovation and extension project currently being undertaken at the Lyndoch Living site.  It was interesting to hear of the other changes developing around the organization that are geared to create a more vibrant and normalized living experience for the clients of Lyndoch Living.

There will be no Guest Speaker next week as we invite children and grandchildren into our Grand Final themed breakfast.  Please support the theme by wearing your team colours or colour of the Grand Final teams.  Chris will be Chairing the meeting as Vice President and he will have some games to entertain the audience.  Myself, Janey, Geoff and Chez (all being well) will be in Ballarat for the RI President’s visit and dinner.  Cheryl will return to Warrnambool on Saturday.

Volunteer Expo – The Volunteer Expo was held at the Uniting Church last Sunday and Monday, September 15 and 16.  Thank you to Geoff, Janey and Andrew for organizing and staffing the table.  From all reports there was considerable traffic through the Expo and some valuable contacts were made.

Trailer and Marquee – Glenn and his team (Sergio, Chris and Ian W, Ian H and Geoff) are making remarkable progress on the trailer repairs and the purchase and signage of our new marquee.  This team do a lot of work behind the scenes and are to be congratulated.  The marquee and revamped trailer will make a difference to our summer work.

World Polio Day – Thursday October 24 is World Polio Day and there is a big push from Rotary International for all Clubs to recognize the day and to create more awareness about the End Polio Now campaign and Rotary’s input to eradicating polio worldwide.  As our major fundraiser for the campaign, Daybreak will be hosting a Breakfast on Thursday October 24 and inviting all the Group 5 Rotary Clubs.  The breakfast will be held at The Warrnambool Surf Life Saving Club.  We have had very favourable response from the other Clubs and have suggested to them that this breakfast meeting take the place of each Clubs usual weekly meeting.  For this reason Daybreak will not meet at the Lady Bay on Wednesday October 23.  We will provide more details of the breakfast as the project develops, but for now please mark the date in your diaries.

Board Meeting –The Board will next meet on Monday 23rd at the Lady Bay resort at 6pm.  Many members have expressed that they would like to stay for dinner and fellowship afterwards.  I will provide a brief report to the members at our weekly meeting on October 2nd.

Director’s Reports – A reminder that we have set aside our October 2 weekly meeting for Director’s Briefs when reports from each area can be relayed to the members.  These reports need only to be brief and highlight what has been achieved or objectives the groups are working toward. This program will provide an opportunity of all members to contribute suggestions to each area.  If a Director is absent can they please delegate a member of their Committee to deliver their report?

Fashion Parade – A fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Warrnambool is the annual fashion parade by Daizy Boutique and Gazman.  Held this year on the evening of Thursday September 26 at the City Memorial Bowls Club, proceeds will be directed to the Warrnambool Special Development School.  Tickets can be purchased for $25 from Daizy Boutique.  Ticket holders will receive a drink on arrival, a $25 voucher for Daizy Boutique and a voucher for Gazman.

Lift the Lid – The Lift the Lid/Bunnings Project is fast approaching on October 5-6.  We have four Rotary Groups involved with Daybreak working the first session on Saturday morning October 4.  Ali has kindly offered to organize the two hampers for Daybreak which will be raffled over the weekend.  If you have any donations for our hampers please contact Ali or bring to next week’s meeting.

Movies in the Park – Sandra has been busy organizing the movies that will be shown on our three proposed dates: Dec 27th Mary Poppins Returns (G), January 3rd Mamma Mia (here we go again) (PG) and January 10th Christopher Robin (G).  Sandra and Sergio and I recently met with a representative from WCC ensuring the MOU is mutually acceptable and relevant to both parties.

The Long Lunch – Jenny has also been busy setting the date and confirming the booking for the 2020 Long Lunch.  The event will be held on the last Sunday in February which falls on Feb 23rd and will be again held at Brother Fox, Deakin University.  It is not too early to save the date in your diaries, tell your friends and organize a group to attend.  It is an enjoyable day when we not only raise substantial funds for local charities but we have the opportunity for fellowship and fun!  There will again be music to dance to at next year’s event and we will probably need this after our busy January!

The rosters for the coming week are outlined below.  Enjoy the connection you make with members of the community in your everyday work and in fulfilling your Rotary commitments.

Have a great week - Liza
