President Peter welcomed this week’s guest speaker Claire Holt, President Portland Bay Rotary. Claire spoke on her involvement with Interplast. We also welcomed, Denise Kelly to our meeting.
Sergeant Barry invited Liza to recite the Invocation with Andrew performing the Toast.
Ian H provided an update on the sale of turf from the Reid Oval redevelopment. To date 250 square metres has been sold, with final orders to Ian by Thursday, 8 October. Club members will be assisted by the Clontarf Academy students on Friday when the turf is being cut and rolled ready for collection.
Guest Speaker Corner – Claire HoltClaire spoke on her visit to Tonga last year as an observer with an Interplast Team. During Claire’s time in Tonga, the Interplast team were able to complete over 70 reconstructive surgeries in the space of 4 days.
Interplast operates from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons building in Melbourne, with a core team of 15 staff members. Interplast sends teams of volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and allied health professionals to provide life-changing surgery and medical training in 17 countries across the Asia Pacific region.
Interplast partners with local organisations, including hospitals, universities and local NGOs. With the purpose to ‘repair bodies and rebuild lives’ through providing surgical services to those who could not otherwise afford or access these, and by building the capacity of local medical systems through training and mentoring programs.

‘Back Pak for Kids Christmas Bag’
Many thanks to those members who have indicated they will participate in this worthy project. To date Cheryl has received responses for 26 ‘Christmas Sacks/Bags’ to be filled by members and their families. If you would like to become involved in this project please contact Cheryl.
