We recently marked the first-year anniversary (November 1st) of the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme. Through our partnership with the Warrnambool Racing Club, the Rotary Club of Warrnambool Central has collected and recycled 71,738 containers over the year. Many of these recycled containers would previously have gone into landfill. The container recycling project has also delivered the Rotary club valuable funds which have been used to support a wide variety of Rotary projects and to support a variety of local charities and community organisations.
We have learned lessons along the way and continue to tweak and improve our container recycling process. Hopefully our container collection in 2025 will be even bigger and better than 2024. If you are at the races in Warrnambool, please support us by placing your empty cans, plastic bottles, and glass bottles in our marked container recycling bins.
