The long standing Rotary tradition was maintained a few weeks ago with the B.E.L. Club hosting an evening of fun at Chemong Lodge in Bridgenorth. Among the guests were the Rotary Club of Fenelon Falls, members of the Rotaract Club of Peterborough and two new members being inducted into the B.E.L club. A wonderful meal was served by the staff at Chemong Lodge.
In June of last year, the disappearance of the Fenelon Falls bell after our SHOWCASE event became a hot topic of conversation. It soon became apparent that members of the BEL club were the culprits. No sooner had we discovered who had taken our bell, the B.E.L. bell magically disappeared. With the assistance of Assistance Governor Rick Storey and his skills as a Rotary Peace Fellow, a compromise was made by both clubs with a $1,000 donation to the Rotary Foundation of Canada. A win-win situation for everyone. Contradictory scientific DNA evidence was presented by both sides. (Not sure how that could happen) As well, ransom letters were received by the BEL Club from around the world. The Rotary Club of Fenelon Falls was able to track the information, find the kidnappers, and retrieve the stolen property. Should criminals be arrested and handcuffed, Treasurer Girv Devitt demonstrated possession of keys to remove said handcuffs.
All bells are now safely back into the hands of their rightful owners and regular Rotary business has resumed.
