At present there are 15 members on the Robotics team at Fenelon Falls Secondary School. Students grab time whenever possible (before school, lunch hour and after school) working as a team to design and build their robot, then enter competitions over the next few months.  They have entered three competitions over this semester – Durham College, North Bay and the Provincials in Toronto.  So far, they are well ahead of the game and feel that this year will be a banner year for the team.  Competition is fierce but collaborative as well, with students building networks in the technology field.   Over the four months, the students will spend approximately $25,000 – $30,000 to design and build their robot, as well as attend competitions.  All money is raised through donations and is not part of the regular curriculum costs.  Every year there are new rules for the computer build, ensuring that every team has equal time to design and build their unit. Some schools in the U.S. have the support of NASA and Google which puts the small school of Fenelon at a disadvantage as they must fundraise on their own.  Caitlyn took on the role of marketing and fundraising for the team, receiving accolades for her Business Plan presentations.

The FFSS is the Falcon team # 6987 and can be followed on TheBlueAlliance.com

First competition takes place in Durham at the end of February followed by the North Bay competition at the end of March.
