PAUL HARRIS FELLOW - IAN CAIRNS
It was a special night for Ian Cairns who was taken completely by surprise with the presentation of a Paul Harris Fellowship by DGE Ray Herbert.
Anne Adams summed up Ian's long and outstanding career in Rotary.
Ian and his family moved to Warrnambool from Melbourne in 1996 when he purchased Warrnambool Business Machines.
In 1997 he was nominated by PP John Harris to join the Rotary Club of Warrnambool and was inducted on August 12 1997 with the classification of Business Services.
Subsequently when his business was sold to Multicomm, Ian commenced work at Brophy Family Services and moved into the area of Foster Care.
Ian has been an integral person in the smooth running of our club and has been a Board director in 2000-2003, 2005-2006, 2008-09 and 2013-14
He has been a member of club service committees from 2001-2010, and is our "go to" person for a sergeant at arms. He been an active member of the attendance committee, the bulletin committee and the membership and member welfare committee.
He has also been chairman of the program committee and the fellowship committee. Ian has also been very actively involved in our major fund raiser the dinner auction.
We are regularly reminded that he is a member of the fines and auction committee and we all know to wait with baited breath to see if we will be fined by the highly secretive, highly scientific random draw. Ian has been running this for so long we all now know our random number.
Ian’s record of Rotary Service is commendable having served on all of our Rotary Service committees at various times.
Rotary Father of the Year award conducted in conjunction with Brophy Family & Youth Services has been Ian’s signature project . Ian proposed this project to the club in 2009 in PP Judy Ross’ year and he has been the driver at our club, resulting in our very good partnership with Brophy Family & Youth Services, and other sponsors of the awards from Warrnambool and District.
Every year many of us have tears in our eyes when we hear the stories of the finalists, we are proud that our system finds such amazing people and we have a project, the promotion of good fathering in our community that will have long term benefits
Rotarian Ian Cairns promotion of this project epitomizes Rotary service through vocation and is a fine example of Rotary making a difference in the world.
Congratulations Ian Cairns.
