Good News Story - Judy Ross
In February 2009, our Club jointly hosted the visiting GSE (Group Study Exchange) team from Canada and Washington State, whilst they were in Warrnambool. This team was a specialist Team related to the Timber Industry.
Phillip and I hosted the youngest member of the team, Ben Curtis, who, shortly after his return to Canada, lost his job due to the Global Financial Crisis.  Ben went back to Uni and after further study and further disappointment in the Canadian job market, returned to Australia to work in the timber industry in the Otways, through a contact he had made whilst here on the GSE trip. He is now based in Ballarat and works in the Ballarat/Beaufort areas.
He has kept in touch with us, and I have been delighted to act as a referee for him in his application for permanent residency, which was successful. Earlier this year he advised he had applied to become an Australian citizen, and on Thursday, Phillip and I will be Ben's guests at his Citizenship ceremony in Ballarat. So, through Rotary, we welcome another Australian Citizen.

Select Mentor Program
John Stuckey reported that the Select Mentor Program that he was involved in will not continue because the policeman he was mentoring has been promoted to inspector and has moved away from Warrnambool.

Trip to Japan April 2016
Remember to see Andrea Sampson if you are interested in joining a two week group trip to Japan during the April 2016 school holidays - she stressed this will be a trip for “grown ups”. This will be during the cherry blossom time and Andrea hopes to take in at least three cities and many tourist attractions.

Message from  PP Peter B. Simons
District 9780 Foundation Fundraising Chair 2015-16
The Rotary International exchange rate is going to become even less favourable for us Aussies as of September 1  as it goes from AUD 1.30 to AUD 1.36 for the same USD buying power.  If you are considering contribution to our Rotary Foundation, Centurion or any other Foundation program this year the best time to contribute is now.  As of September 1 (next Tuesday) the less attractive rate will apply to any contributions and one would suspect it will be even less active as the year progresses.
