Sergeant at Arms Ian Cairns opened the meeting and invited Gerry Delaney to do the Invocation and Loyal Toast. Ian introduced Brian Trenery as Acting President tonight in Michael’s absence. Brian Trenery Welcome to our guests Wilma Gibson (transferring to our club) and Graeme Thompson from the Rotary Club of Warrnambool East. Meeting Introduction: - Tonight, we have a club service night with a difference. Instead of the usual committee meetings we will have three planning meetings for events coming up in the near future. Fashion Parade in April, Dinner Auction in June and 90th Anniversary celebrations in November.
- Peace Concert: We are hoping to fill the Lighthouse Theatre this Thursday night for the Rotary Peace Concert. We will be making three presentations of Peace Awards and will acknowledge the recipients during a future meeting.
- Michael reports from his hospital bed that he has visited the 9 properties adjacent to Ted King Park and left them with a copy of the information about our plans. Council has purchased the materials for the fencing and has trimmed some trees on site with some mulch ready to protect new plantings once the fence is constructed. Dallas Armistead and Trevor Williams are working with Mark Mirtschin from the Council to plan the construction of the fence. The Clontarf Academy and Ski Club are also keen to be involved.
- Update on Bunny and Graeme. Both have had time in hospital but are now home recuperating. Bunny has had skin grafts and looks a bit hard-done-by but will mend. Many thanks to all those who were able to visit them.
- Please remember to fill in the volunteer book as it is passed around.
- Another gathering of potential Rotaractors was held last Thursday – still not enough (only 4 with 4 apologies) to reform a Club. Another attempt will be on Thursday 28th March.
- We wish to recognise the anniversary for some long-standing service by two of our members – 62yrs for Ron Rauert on March 5th and 49 yrs for Alan Bowes on March 2nd. We also have in March the following induction anniversaries – Ron Bishop - 40 yrs, Bunny – 23 years, Marie Bennett – 9 years, Ann Donaldson and Delia Jenkins 2 years.
Members Announcements: Rachel Furnell (on behalf of Lou Keogh) – - Monique Forbes is in France and settling in well. Meeting lots of other exchange students and getting to know her host family. She has celebrated her birthday and says she is in a beautiful city where the Mayors house is at the highest central point and can be seen by all.
- Janick and Lea, along with the other exchange students are organising a fundraising movie night. Please support this if possible.
Ann Donaldson- We have had 3 $2 Coin tubes returned to Terry with $100 each donated to Foundation. Thank you to those who are participating. If you would like a coin tube please see me. I also have a list of donations to date so if you would like to know how far you are from a Paul Harris pin (this requires $1000 US) please come and see me. You can also make a one off or monthly donation to Foundation and its various sections ie – End Polio Now, Foundation Grants, Foundation Share Fund and the Foundation Peace Centre. I have the forms for this if you would like one. David Brown – Desperate Browny in need of some extra helpers still for the Folkie. Please get in touch if you can help out. Dinner Auction Meeting – at 5pm prior to next week’s Club meeting. The focus will be a working bee to fold the letters for the donors. Fines with Ian Cairns – All Folkie Volunteers, Jim Hanrahan, Trevor – for destroying 3 plants when doing a job at Glenn’s place and for being late to the meeting, Glenn for failing at trying to assemble some furniture, Alan Bowes – getting his hat back, All Golf club members, Louise Brennan for getting here after properties were already done, all the induction anniversary members and member number 29, 24, 39, 37, 15 and 44 (Svet, Richard, Duncan, Andrea, Gerry and Graeme) Robbie’s Swindle – Chris Stebbings is $6 richer – only 2 cards left. Attendance – 38 attended, 4 apologies, 1 visitor and slipped the mind of 4. Toast to Trevor and Leanne for their upcoming nuptials. Michael’s thought for the week – Experience is a wonderful thing. It enables you to recognise a mistake when you make it again.
