Theme: The link between scouting and rotary.
Rotary started in Chicago in 1905, Scouting commenced in England 1910.
Rotary started through a need for friendship in business. The result was the desire to put something back into the community. The first project was a public toilet.
Scouting was commenced to develop skills for boys. Baden-Powell, coming from a military background, thought it would be good to develop a program to help boys develop skills.
Both parties developed in ethics and guidelines.

The wonderful thing about both groups is that once you become a member of either, you are an equal.
Introducing two Scouts, Steven and Isabel.
Steven, how long have you been in scouting? 4-5 years.
What makes you come back? Catch up with friends, and earn more badges.
Badges received, tent camping, 100 kms hiking (Over a number of years), Stradbroke - camping competition (improvement in camping).
Isabel, what's your red cord for? It is awarded after 3 red badges, and a number of proficiency badges.
What did you have to do for your music badge? Bring an instrument and prove that you can play it, read music, perform.
What brings you back each week? Friends who are great fun. There's always something fun to do.
Scouts has been open to both girls and boys for about 15 years or so.
There is an international federation of scouting Rotarians of which Brian is a member.
Richard, from Warrnambool Tooram Scouts, advised Rotarians that tonight's function is a fundraising event for scouts to go to jamboree In Tailem Bend in January, and for one scout to attend the international jamboree in USA next year. Scouts will earn $ toward their jamboree expenses through participation in tonight's fund-raising.
There are raffle tickets also available for sale, as well as a scout cook book. A movie night is to be held on 24th July, "Momma Mia 2".
