FINES

Fines-master Ian does not let many off.  Football fans were the first to be caught.  Other fines included anyone running for Council, tonight’s auctioneer, owner of  mobile phone that rang during the meeting, members celebrating birthdays and inductions and Ian’s random number draw.  You can’t escape!

AUCTION

The first item Keith auctioned was a Rotary car badge.  He received $10 for it.   He then produced a solid - silver 100 Years of Rotary (2005) badge which has a dollar embedded in it.  He asked, ‘’What am I offered for it?”   At first there were no bids, then very low bids, but eventually someone offered $100.  Bids rose steadily.  He finally sold it for $200. Persistence won!

GUEST SPEAKER - DALLAS ARMISTEAD

John Hunt interviewed Dallas Armistead. We learned that Dallas has been a member of our Rotary Club for 10 months. His dad was a builder.  He liked to help his father and realised he too would like to be a builder and he did his apprenticeship was with his father. Dallas has now been working for about 22 years.
Dallas is 41 years old. His wife Kylie is studying nursing and helps run the business. They have 3 children. He attended Warrnambool East Primary School, North Tech and Brauer College.  His favourite subjects were woodwork and chemistry. Favourite teacher was Mr Ballinger.  He later studied engineering in Geelong.  Much of the work he does is restoring old homes. The necessary bookwork is not a favourite part of what he does. He said the most difficult thing is getting permits for what people want done.
Dallas has enjoyed playing cricket and football. He has played with Russell’s Creek and South Warrnambool and has coached Timboon and Allansford.  When asked if he was ever reported he said yes, and was rubbed out once. He said he prefers cricket over football. Dallas said he really enjoys what he does.
Past president Brian thanked Dallas for taking part in the interview.   He added that John’s Talks help us to get to know more about members.

MEDIA RELEASE FROM THE WARRNAMBOOL CITY COUNCIL
September 12, 2016

2017 Australia Day award nominations open

The search is on for Warrnambool’s most dedicated, generous and community-minded people, with nominations for the 2017 Warrnambool Australia Day Awards now open.

Categories include Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Event of the Year and the Local Achiever Award.

Chair of the Warrnambool Australia Day advisory committee, Andrew Suggett, said that Australia Day was the perfect time to come together as a community and recognise those who make Warrnambool what it is.

“Governments can do much to make a city liveable, but it’s the efforts of a core of devoted people who truly make a city loveable,” he said.

“There are so many passionate and selfless people in Warrnambool doing great things without any thought of getting anything in return.

“Considering the countless hours so many fine people dedicate to making Warrnambool a better place, nominating someone for an Australia Day award is one of the simplest, yet most important ways of showing your appreciation.”

For the first time residents who do not reside in Warrnambool, yet make a significant contribution to the Warrnambool community, will be eligible for the Local Achiever Award.

“The committee felt that there may be people who live in a neighbouring municipality, yet whose noteworthy efforts to improve the city of Warrnambool deserve official recognition,” Mr Suggett said.

To submit a nomination, visit www.yoursaywarrnambool.com.au. Alternatively, hard copy nomination forms are available at the Civic Centre, 25 Liebig Street.

Nominations close at 5pm on November 30, 2016.

JEST JOKIN'

1. My goal for 2016 was to lose just 10 pounds. Only 15 to go.

2. Ate salad for dinner. Mostly croutons & tomatoes. Really just one big round crouton covered with tomato sauce. And cheese. FINE, it was a pizza. I ate a pizza.

3. How to  prepare Tofu:

    a.  Throw it in the trash

    b.  Grill some meat

4. I just  did a week's worth of cardio after walking into a spider web.

5. I don't  mean to brag, but I finished my 14-day diet food in 3 hours and 20 minutes.

6. A recent study has found women who carry a little extra weight live longer than  men who mention it.

7. Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

8. Senility has been a smooth transition for me.

9. Remember back when we were kids and every time it was below zero out they closed school? Me neither.

10. I may not be that funny or athletic or good looking or smart or talented. I forgot where I was going with this.

11. I love being over 70. I learn something new every day and forget 5 others.

12. A thief broke into my house last night. He started searching for money so I woke up and searched with him.

13. I think I'll just put an "Out of Order" sticker on my forehead and call it a  day.

14. November 6, 2016 will be the end of Daylight Savings Time. Hope you don't forget to set your bathroom scale back 10 pounds on Saturday night.

15. Just remember, once you're over the hill you begin to pick up speed.
