NOTICES
Tony
CFA BBQ - 1000 people. Very successful. A big thank you to Judy, Keith, Ann, Delia, Rachel, Richard, Gerry, Anne, Graeme, Louise K, Robbie, Michael, Sharon, Bunny, Terry, Trevor, Leanne, Graham, Louise B Steve.
Special thanks to Judy and Keith helping with lots of extra organising for Tony.
Steve asked in 2017. $10 a head. 1000 x 10 = 10000 - $2000 costs = a fantastic profit, so well done everyone.

Robbie’s swindle.
Ian Cairns drew the Ace and is the lucky winner of $236.
GUEST SPEAKER - SUSAN MOREY, SWHC
Tony Austin – chairman introduced Suzan Morey and Tony Kelly.

Susan Morey – Is South West Healthcare’s Manager of Community Partnerships. One of Suzan’s responsibilities is fundraising for the SWHC. In the past 13 years she has worked with local groups, club, businesses, families, philanthropic trust and individuals to raise $7 million for otherwise unaffordable medical equipment. Suzan’s latest fundraising endeavour is a public appeal to raise $270,000 to buy the region a Prostate Cancer Detector.

Suzan started by saying Rotary House, that we have been a part of establishing, has had a 75% occupancy rate every night which is fantastic. The $4800 provided to purchase a CCTV has stopped all robberies which has also been a fantastic outcome. The next stage is ‘Greening it’. Reducing environmental emissions by adding solar panels which will reduce bills by 30%.

We have just embarked on the largest appeal ever. $270,000 for a Prostate Cancer Detector based in the operating theatre. No government funding for this outside of the current government funding that we already get which doesn’t cover this detector. The target is hoped to be reached by the end of the year.

Tony Kelly - manager of SWHC Peri-operative Services. Tony has managed the Warrnambool Base Hospital theatre suite for more than 25 years. More than 6,500 surgeries have been performed in this incredibly busy work environment in the past 12 months. The Prostate Cancer Detector Appeal will lead to the gradual expansion of local specialty Urological Service.

Tony said we now have specialist urologist in Warrnambool but we still have 8-10 men a month currently having to go to Geelong to get biopsies. The new equipment will allow accurate biopsies of prostates here in Warrnambool. We have the skills we just need the equipment. With the Cancer treatment centre here we can use the equipment to seed the prostate for treatment. The procedure is done as a day case. A lot less risk of infection and decreased post op bleeding.

Suzan and Tony were asking us to support the fundraising efforts and asked everyone to like the Facebook page or support any way they can.
