CHRISTMAS PARTY 18 DECEMBER 2018
CHRISTMAS BREAKUP AT LAKE PERTOBE
Rotarian Ian Cairns called all the attendees to order
Welcome from President Michael Boyd to all Rotarians and Club guests;
  • Rajah, Rasmina and Melissa
  • Gabe, grandson of Trevor & Jenny
Visiting Rotarians from Daybreak Club – Stephen Bellamey & Glenn Rundell

  • Tonight, we have our Christmas breakup BBQ and Kris Kringle, later invited to select a gift.
  • Remember no Rotary meetings for the next two Tuesdays, we return on 8th January back to the Warrnambool Football Club.
  • Thank you to all involved in the Emergency Services Expo at Lake Pertobe on Saturday, we had so many volunteers in preparing and serving at the BBQ, a great effort.
  • We have two more significant fundraising activities in the next month;
    • Rotary Car Raffle – Terry O’Neill has put together a timetable and allocated Rotarians to a time and place to sell the raffle tickets.  If your designated time does not suit, please let Terry know and he will look at an alternative.
    • Southern Right Creative Festival on the weekend of 11th, 12th & 13th of January, Andrea Sampson has compiled a roster, reminder slips will be handed out tonight by Andrea.
  • Warrnambool Rotary have had three requests of support from three local Clubs;
    • Daybreak Rotary are seeking donations of used books for their stalls on Sunday markets during December.  If anyone has old books, please pass them on to Ian Cairns and he will arrange for the books to be delivered to Daybreak Club.
    • Stephen Bellamey spoke tonight on the Surfside Program; an initiative Rotary Daybreak.   A service is offered with showers and clothes washing for folk in need in the area, perhaps living in a caravan, no fixed address etc. The ‘F’ Project have supported the project by offering their facility with a laundromat located across the driveway, however now back to Surfside 2, generous offer of WCC facilities.  Daybreak Rotary seek to put together a 3 week roster with ideally one male and one female rostered every Sunday throughout the coming busy period (an induction required initially).  Without continuity of say 9-12 weeks the project will fall over.  Our President interjected at this time to remind everyone it is a great Community Services activity, potentially spread over all Warrnambool Rotary Clubs.
  • Warrnambool East would like some assistance with the ‘Hole in One Competition’ during January – Noel Kenna is organizing a roster, see Michael Boyd for further details.
  • Central (Phillip Ritchie) needs help with Mini Safari (11th – 19th January) and youth exchange visit to Warrnambool.  Louise Keogh would like assistance to transport exchange students to the 12 Apostles on January 14th, students will join us at our Rotary meeting on January 15th, 2019.

A MEMBERSHIP MOMENT
Mark Twain once said: “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So, throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

Can you relate this to your Rotary Service?
