Child Safe Standards
Judy Ross reminded everyone who has not signed the Child Safe Standards document to please see Gerry Delaney or Sharon as the club needs all members to have read and signed the documents.
International Rotary Exchange
Judy Ross has been contacted by Gail Barrett who is the chair of the International Rotary Exchange Committee. At the end of Oct 2016 our region was visited by members of the New York Finger Lakes District and District 7120 has been offered the chance to send a team of 12 people to the New York Finger Lakes district later this year. Judy said anyone interested needs to contact her ASAP as applications need to be in yesterday! There are 12 spaces this can be made up of 6 couples, or 3 couples and 4 individuals etc. Rotarians pay for their return fares, spending money and some meals and the New York club provides accommodation and a lot of local transport. Travel Insurance is not required because the Rotary Club membership covers this cost. Please contact Judy if interested and she will email the details to you.
District Conference
Conference is coming up at the end of March - 31st March and 1st April 2017 and registrations can be done on line. If planning to attend please do so as soon as possible.
Reminder to please notify David Brown of attendance and if Rotarian requires a meal.
Judy reminded all Rotarians that they must notify David Brown and let him know if not attending. The football club works out the number of meals needed based on the numbers provided by David. Up until now they have been good enough to write off meals ordered but not used. However recently there was an over catering of in excess of 15 meals and this is not fair or reasonable to the football club to expect them to absorb this loss. Nor is it good for our clubs relationship with the football club. Judy asked everyone to please lift their game with regard to meals.
Quilt Show
Andrea Sampson advised Rotarians the Quilt Show in January 2017 had once again been a great success. Andrea spoke about initially being asked to be involved with the Southern Right Quilt show ladies back in 2010 and she has been involved ever since. The show is run every two years and takes 6 days to put on - that includes setting up and dismantling time. The Quilt show was started by a group of woman who had experienced cancer and and who wanted to raise money for Peter’s Project - in the past 7 years the show which showcases local talent has gone from strength to strength raising $60,000 since 2011. Warrnambool Rotary club helps with raffle ticket selling, set up and pull down and ticket selling at the door.
Andrea’s two guests Shirley and Anne from the Southern Right Quilt show gave a brief report on the success of the January 2017 quilt show. A profit of $13,000 was made this year and the Warrnambool Rotary Club has been given the proceeds of the raffle which raised $2,500. Our club will put this money towards a local health related cause. The second prize for the raffle was won by our own Rachel Furnell. Judy thanked our two Quilt Show guests and also thanked Andrea Sampson for all her hard work over the years with the quilt show.
Relay for Life
Brian Trenery reminded Rotarians that Relay for Life is coming up on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th February and encouraged Rotarians to attend and walk. The opening ceremony is at 6.30pm on Friday 10th and the Candle Light ceremony is on Saturday night at 8.30pm. In the past the candle bags have been weighed down with sand in the bottom and this year people are being asked to bring a can of food to weigh the bag down. The canned food will later be donated to Anglicare and used in Emergency Relief food hampers.

A wonderful time was had by all the students with lot of fun and activity packed days. The students were billeted out with Rotary families and went canoeing near Nelson and as they canoed they saw Aboriginal carvings on rocks. They had a BBQ dinner with Mt Gambier Rotarians and met lots of lovely people during their time away. From Portland they went out in a boat and saw seals . They had surfing lessons and attended a trivia night. They visited Pt Fairy and went for a long walk and had coffee in the sun before returning to Warrnambool to attend Rotary the following night. After this they went water skiing on a biscuit, had a look around the surf club and going shooting. They had a pool party for Tim’s birthday. Steve took them all by bus along the Great Ocean road to see Port Campbell, the 12 Apostles and the ocean waves crashing on the cliff faces. The Summer Safari ended with attendance at the Lake Pertobe Night Market and a visit to the Carnival. A great time was had by all.
Voices for Peace concert 9th March 2017
Karina Wood played a small music clip on her mobile phone to demonstrate some of the talent appearing at the Voices for Peace concert which is on again on Thursday 9th March. Tickets can be purchased from Karina for $30 each or from the Lighthouse Theater for $35 each.
Auction
Keith McLeod auctioned a basket of fresh home grown fruit and vegies (basket not included in the deal) which was purchased for $25 by one of our Southern Right Quilt show ladies. Thank you Keith.
Swindle
The Swindle was won by Ian Cairns who won $10.
